My girlfriend has a 94 honda accord and on the roof she had a blotchy spot which first looked like it was oxidation..... now it's turning a little white and kind of flaking...if i scrape my finger nail over it i scrape off the white portion of it.... i'm guessing it's the clear coat?? am i right??

If in fact it is the clear coat..... would it be a good idea to run the PC over it with some #80 ?? if it is a good idea what will it do?? remove that portion of the clear coat and start making the base coat shine and look good ?? Any help or info would be appreciated .. Thanks everyone!

Thats most likely a case of clear coat failure.

Quote (Mike Phillips):
"...nothing you pour out of a bottle or scoop out of a can is going to fix the problem at this point in time and the only true fix and honest answer to the question is in order to fix the problem the vehicle in question will need to be repainted."

This doesnt mean that you should still keep detailing it, though. If, say, there was a small patch of clear coat failure, I'm sure that continuing to wash, polish, and wax the entire car can still help maintain what is left of the finish.

The base coat underneath the clearcoat has no gloss to it. The gloss of a clear coated vehicle comes from the clear coat. I am unsure if you would be able to get gloss form a base coat.
