I have a 91 Integra with Carbon hood and hatch, and a FAL window (plexiglass) That I would really like to learn how to take care of. That window scratches so easily. A couple of images to give you an idea.

My hunch is the plastic window is Lexan and not Plexiglas. I hope it's Plexiglas and not Lexan. Bring her on down and we'll see what we can do, but if it's Lexan then there's probably not much we can do to actually remove the scratches as this material has 3 things usually working against successful polishing,

1) It's very hard
2) The material itself doesn't lend itself to abrading/polishing with the goal having the surface look good when you're done
3) It's often times coated and if it's coated you can't polish or abrade the coating because you're remove it where ever you work and then it will not have a uniform appearance.

Again, this is just speculation, unless you know for sure or the manufacture states this in their sales material or perhaps on their website?

These windows area molded to original size and shape, and install identical to original glass. Back-half kits include the rear quarter windows and the rear deck window. More durable than Lexan, minor scratches can be easily reduced or eliminated.

revautousa,
how much did you pay for that FAL window?

easy to install?

They retail in the $300 range, fairly easy to install, just have to be precise, and prep it correctly.

Not yet approved for street use. But *knock on wood* No one has said anything yet. And I've been pulled over twice with it.

Hi Gary,

I've placed your name on the list and we would love to have you bring your boat down here to be Meguiarized!

Do you have a picture you can post so we can see what the boat looks like? Does it look like this?

Great!

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures yet.
The boat in the picture may be a 232 . I have a 227. It has a closed bow and a white w/2 blue stripes aka "navy sport" color scheme.
I bought it in January and have only washed it. I don't think it has every been waxed. It looks good, but It needs some expert help.
Here is a picture of someone elses 227 w/ different colors, but same pattern.
Looking forward to Wednesday.
Thanks.

Here's the photo you attatched,

I went ahead and uploaded it to our gallery as that's the only way to get a photo to show up in a message.

How to put pictures into your posts (http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3188)

We're not supposed to wash cars here at our facilities so if the boat needs to be washed before we work on it, if possible try to wash it the day of or the day before. Looking forward to seeing your boat as I'm kind of a boat guy myself. ;)

Sign me up please. I think it would be interesting to detail a boat and a car all in the same night. Cool.

Will do Mejia,

I'm going to double check with the owners of both the boat and the car to make sure they're going to be here, so check back before Wednesday to make sure the class is still a Go and not canceled.

That's okay Mike, thank you for letting us know and everyone here at Meguiar's wishes you well and hopes you have a full recovery. On a personal note, my little sister was born blind so I am very aware of how important our eye sight is.

Hmmm.... this is going to be a bit of a squeeze getting the boat into the garage...

http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/gallery/data/500/2CobaltTeam00.jpg

After getting Gary's Cobalt Boat into the garage and wiping the exterior down to remove any light surface dust or contaminants we clayed the gel-coat finish using our Smooth Surface Clay Kit.

And yes, boats need to be clayed just like cars... all of the gunk you see on the below clay patty was removed off of just one half of the bow.

http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/gallery/data/500/2CobaltClay2.jpg

After claying the gel-coat we dialed in a system that Gary can use to restore the finish on his boat to like new condition... To do this we used a combination of M44 Color Restorer for the heavily oxidized or stained areas followed by M50 One Step Cleaner Wax to be used over all of the gel
-coat surfaces. We applied both of these products using the G100 Dual Action Polisher using dedicated W-8006 foam polishing pads on the 5.0 setting.

Thanks Meguiar's for helping me out with my boat!

It looks good Meguiarized.

I found the open garage to be extremely educational. I am more confident to takle the maintanance required to keep my gelcoat looking good now that I know what products work best and how to apply them.

Thanks to Erik who is very knowledable about detailing.

Meguiar's rocks.

I would like to thank Meguiar's, Mike, and Gary for the opportunity to work on a boat. The experience was very educational. I enjoyed seeing the marine line in action. Thanks and hopefully I can make it to more Open Garage nights.
