Hello,

I just purchased a '97 Grand AM GT, Black on black and loaded. I ha fairly new to these forums and thank everyone for all their help, my cars thank you:xyxthumbs

I noticed first my windshield with all these sand like chips, looked into this further and all over mainly the front of the car. I have gone for two quotes at detailers for professional, my main questions are:

~ I was told that claying on black paint creates swirls, etc., advise was a 6-7 stage cut polish and build it back or clay and polish/wax...I have clayed before on my red Fiero and loved the results.

I can do most of the work all by hand, clay and polish and see if I have to spend $200-$600 bucks.

~ For the glass, can either use a razor, steel wool, then clay to smooth out?, am I on the right track?.

~ And for the trim, suggestions?.

Thanks:D ...:wall: :wall:

if your working by hand theres no way you will spend $600

try claying first it should do the trick but if it doesn't try DC1 with a terry applicator
and if that still doesnt work then try ScratchX

and after DC1 or ScratchX remember to polish and wax
polish: use M07 or DC2
wax Gold Class, NXT, M20
all these products should be avalable at Canadian Tire

"I was told that claying on black paint creates swirls, " i am sure that that is not true for the consumer clay

you can also try claying the glass after claying the paint
hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions.

What is the difference in the clay's, there is Smooth Surface or Quick Detailer clays on Meguiar's online e-store. I can only by locally through Canadian Tire or Lardco the Detail clay/spray package, would it make a difference?.

I tried to look up a few of the products, could you please clarify:

DCI: Is this Deep Crystal?
MO7?
DC2: Deep Crystal Polish?

For wax I already use NXT, I have skipped a step in the past without polish and straight to wax, is this wrong?...seems so

the quik clay only has a bottle of quik detailer and a clay bar

the new smooth surface kit has a bottle of quik detailer, SS m/f, 2 clay bars ( the same size as the quik clay kit when added together) and a sample of A12 (cleaner wax)

you can not yet get the smooth surface it in Canada unless you order online.

DC1: Is Deep Crystal paint cleaner
M07 show car glaze
DC2: Deep Crystal Polish

I am in the process of removing over spray from my whole car also. I am using clay for the painted surfaces, and using NEVER DULL for the painted wheels and glass. It's working pretty good so far. It seems to be a little more aggressive than the Muthas clay I have.

Never Dull on glass?...would not have considered that
