Rick,
Quick question on these particular MF towels.
Have you experimented with other brands/sizes/styles of MF towels? How do these compare with those types?
I ask only because I've purchased MF towels in bulk as well and was less than pleased with the quality of the towels versus my expensive MF towels. Of course, cost doesn't always mean quality but, thusfar, I've yet to find a MF towel that bucked that trend.

Well if it ever stops looking like it's wanting to rain more (yes, it's raining in Arizona, it's amazing) I was planning on waxing up the hood of something and doing a comparison. I actually haven't had one of these out of the package until today. Comparing it to these expensive blue brand x MF towels I get from my detail guy it actually feels softer. Of course it hasn't been through the wash numerous times so time will tell.
The tag on it says 20% polyamide 80% polyester. Made by Eurow and OReilly Corp. Anyone ever heard of them? If I can tomorrow or eventually I'll do a comparison, meguiars, vs these, vs the other ones I have.

Great question about M/F towels. There are differences between towels. Without testing the towels, I think price is the best indicator of the quality of the M/F towel, then testing the results. How it performs over time, and washing is the best indicator for these towels.
Hope this helps.

Tom,
I've purchased cheap mfs that are great (from Excel Detail, and the Viking towels from Walmart & KMart) and expensive mfs that are awful (3M's, some strange ones at a local shop), and cheap mfs that are awful (the wrapped ones at WalMart) and expensive mfs that are great (the Cobra towels)!
One thing I've found is that, IMO a towel can be TOO plush to be effective. There's a nice sweet spot where a towel is a "line drive penguin", if you get the analogy.

Hi Tom,
I agree with your statement about towels. We did a lot of testing of many different M/F towels before we put our name on these towels. We also continue to test our M/F against any new improved M/F that is claimed to be out on the market. One thing that I have seen is a M/F towel that is combined with cotton. Works fairly well, but it is costly.
Another tip is to wash and dry these towels seperate from your cotton towels or anything that may give off lint. These M/F towels act like magnets and lint from other items will attach to the towels..

I have been using the eurow towels from costco for over a month now. I have tested them on every color car you can imagine and washed them many times. I have not seen any marring, none. I have over a hundred and will buy more. They do lint a little at first, but after a few washings they are fine.
For reference I have used MF from meguiars, pakshak, wal-mart, premiumautocare, poorboys, etc.

another great thing about Costco is ther return policy!!! They take it back with no questions asked!!! Unless of course it is food that you ate or something silly like that.

LOL! :D
I don't get the analogy, but it made me laugh anyways!
I would strongly agree with your statement. There is a sweet spot when it comes to microfiber towels. To soft, to thick, to plush and they become somewhat ineffective.
To short of a nap, or to thin and their performance fall off sharply.
I would also second what Tom MacDonald wrote about washing separate. Microfibers tend to attract every stray fiber in a wash or dryer load. Here at Meguiar’s, we have enough microfibers in the Training Garage that it is very easy to wash a dedicated load of nothing but microfiber polishing cloths.
This always insures perfectly lint and stray-fiber free loads of clean microfiber cloths.

LOL!!! My first swing I sent that little bird about 500 yards, then whiffed on the next 7 or 8. I found that if your hit them low and hard they skip across the snow and go farther!!!

Costco in Iowa!!!!? Lets stick to the more important issue. Are there penguins in Iowa???
Kidding asside. You might check Sam's Club. They are very similar to Costco and the type of merchandise they carry. If not get on the Meguiar's website and order direct at www.meguiars.com

Interesting that you should bring that up as I was considering asking the same question prior to arriving at your post.
I believe I had talked myself out of wondering about the answer to that question though... I'm almost afriad to ask.
Oh yeah, we don't have Costcos in Kentucky either. :( Sam's Club isn't bad though...

We don't have much of anything in Kentucky. Almost everything I buy has to be shipped from somewhere on the west coast.

You are correct there.... but, we have a GREAT Meguiar's distributor here in Louisville. He stocks nearly Meg's Mirror Glaze item (in multiple size bottles) and a good majority of the Detailer line. Needless to say, most of those guys down there know me on a first name basis and claim they can't make their quarterly goals without my support. LOL!

Ok, I finally did give the costo mf's a try yesterday for a quick brief demo of my brand new DA polisher I bought and yeah they aren't quite as good. I'd say middle of the road, they required more effort to remove DACP compared to the meguiars mf. They will be fine for interior use or on glass, even final detail wipe down, but the better ones will deffinitely be used for removing polishes and wax for sure.
The nap isn't trimmed like the more expensive towels. No scratches though so they work as advertised.

I have the Meguiars and the Costco and both seem really good. Here is an interesting side note. Last spring I washed my MF's (white) with my Waffle MF drying rags (yellow) and 2 regular all cotton cloth towels. The waffles had not been washed before. When I opend the washer all of my MF's were a pale yellow and the all cotton was just as white as the day I bought them.
I guess the MF's really do grab EVERYTHING. I wash them all separately now, my wife hates that.

The Costco in West Los Angeles (Marina del Rey store) just got the Microfiber car towels in stock. A package of a dozen for $8.29 or 69 cents a towel. These are the yellow 16"X16" ones from Detailers Preference/Eurow.
I brought them home and threw them right into the washer with a few drops of Woolite. Air fluff dry (no heat). Tried them on removing DACP, #7, and NXT.
Used them just the same way I use my good Meguiars towels. One towel to remove most of the material and another fresh one to finish it off. Did just as good a job as the good towels on DACP but took extra work to remove the #7. I think I tried to remove the NXT too soon since the first towel just seemed to smear it around but the second took it right off.
Overall a really good deal. They are so cheap that if you tore or stained one you just wouldn't care.
So I phoned a friend of mine that was going to Costco this morning and had him get me another four packages. Now I've got sixty of them! Can't use the excuse "sorry I can't polish your car today, I'm out of towels" anymore.

Any comparisons out there of the Meguiar's Ultimate Wipes vs the green Viper Microfiber cloths? They both seem equal, but has anyone noticed strengths and weaknesses of each? I've only recently begun to use the Ultimate Wipes, so my experience is limited with them.

I just bought a set of 3 Microfiber towels for $6.47 at Wal-Mart. They're from Rubbermaid, and there is a blue towel for windows/mirrors, a yellow towel for bathroom fixtures, and a green towel for multi-purpose.
I hope all microfiber towels are universal. It tells me 'Simply wet the cloth with water and wipe the surface.' Will I have to wet the cloth before I remove the clay and/or the wax?
Does it matter which 3 choices of my towels I use for detailing?

I've heard good things about the costco towels, however the batch I bought lint UNBELIEVABLY bad

I have quite a few of the Costco towels, as well as just about every other mf towel on the planet.
FOR THE PRICE, they're great.
They do lint badly and bleed color at first as stated, but are good after a few washes, they they are fine to use on paint. I still only use my premium towels on most finishes, just because they work better.
After quite a few washes they lose their plushness, but don't fall apart or anything. These towels are a real workhorse, and great to have around.
