Will strip wax off wheels if diluted 4:1?
I understand it stains polished aluminum. I have a polished lip, is there a dilution rate I can use that wont stain it and still not strip the wax?
Thanks

I've been using Gold Class All Wheel Cleaner on my polished aluminum (painted center section) wheels with absolutely no problems. In my opinion, it's the best wheel cleaner Meguiar's makes for bare aluminum.

http://home.earthlink.net/%7Estan999/upload/M1R-Halibrand-Rear.jpgI do understand that the other wheel cleaners are safe for polished rims but I have a gallon of wheel brightener now and if I wont be able to use it on my car then :(. My parents cars both have painted rims so I can use it on those cars.

Seems to me I remember reading somewhere WB is something you want to use on a fairly dirty wheel, not light dust as its quite strong.

So my question then is, is there a dilution rate which makes it safe for light brake dust?

I'd say at 4:1 dilution it will strip the wax. This is pretty potent stuff and if you're looking to remove light brake dust I think you're much better off with a less aggressive product. Heck, for light brake dust you can make do with an old sheepskin wash mitt in your regular wash solution (GoldClass, NXT, etc). If you keep the wheels well waxed the brake dust will come off easily this way. I do it all the time on painted wheels with polished lips.
If you insist on using Wheel Brightener then a 10:1 dilution is about as strong as I'd go for this particular use.

Well Id have to use it somewhere. I got a gallon of this stuff lol:wall: Ill play with dilutaion rates and see if wax starts to strip or not and see how effective it is.

Just so we keep things in context for everyone that reads this for the future...
Most cleaning chemicals will act to remove and not add-to a previously applied layer of anything. The act of rubbing a wheel brush or a wash mitt against the surface of anything with a coating of wax will tend to remove the coating of wax, not add to it.

To be safe, you should probably pick up a bottle of a wheel cleaner approved for uncoated, polished aluminum. If you take a chance and stain the aluminum, the time it will take you to re-polish the lip by hand, will be much greater than the money you'll spend on the correct wheel cleaner.

I use Wheel Brightener all the time, but only on coated rims, I use it at 4:1 but that will strip off wax as it great for break dust and is pretty stout stuff. I give it a spray, agitate it, and rinse it right away. As Mike in Orange recommends, try 8:1 or 10:1 and see if how that works out for you. Not sure I would use it on Aluminum wheels...

Why does Meguiars advertize it the way they do if it is not safe?
