Cord Reel...

A few months ago I bought a 30' retractable cord reel for my garage and it has quickly become a necessity when I detail. Its much easier to simply pull down as much cord as I need instead of trying to wrangle a 50' cord around my garage. I decided to pick up a second one for the other side of the garage to further simplify things. I stopped in my local Wal-Mart today to pick one up and they had them on clearance for 20 bucks! Seriously, if you guys have a garage and use any kind of machine that needs to be plugged in, you've got to get one of these!

They're being discontinued so grab one while you can. Just thought I'd share...

That would be a good investment. I would like to put one in the basement so when I'm detailing all I have to do is pull the cord out and connect it to what I'm using.

I have thought about getting one just never have... never thought about using it when detailing but it really sounds like a good idea.

What I've found really useful is to pull the cord down, plug in your polisher, and let it retract most of the way. That way it holds your cord mostly in the air so there's less of a chance of it dragging against the car.

:bigups That sounds like agood idea. Inever really thought about a retractable extension cord. Never paid it any mind pulling out the 50 footer. Thanks also for the tip on getting the slack out of the line. I will have to get this.

Buy a good one, the cheaper ones do not retract very well (voice of experience) ;)

i thought about getting one of these last summer but just wanted to know if people had used one before while detailing.

i might check it out now.

not sure though. i like knowing the cord is on the floor and not hanging possibly touching the car.

Same here, if it is on the ground, I can control it better and keep it off the paint..

I mounted mine on the ceiling about two feet from the wall on either side. That way, when the car is in the middle of the garage, the cord is hanging behind me and safely away from the car.

Just ran to Wal-Mart and they dont have them anymore...did pick up some other car detailing stuff..

maybe a rental product within 30 days. i konw its bad but i don't want to take any chances with my paint's finish.

I put in my garage a couple of months ago and love it. I got the idea from all the time I've spent at Meguiar's garage during several Saturday Clinics and Wednesday Night Open Garage sessions - Meguiar's has three of these hanging from the ceiling! I got mine at Sears for right around $35.

Trufflepig, I understand your concern about the cord hanging rather than laying on the ground, but at both Meguiar's at my own garage we pull down enough cord to coil it on the ground to avoid this. Hey, you've got 30' to play with, it's fine!

ah i see. now i get. you pretty much just pull the whole cord out so it sits comfortably on the ground.
