Information About Our Saturday Detailing Classes in Irvine, California (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20686)
Our Saturday Detailing Classes have become very popular among car enthusiast in the SoCal area but also for people around the world as we share the event with pictures on our forum after each class. We even have people that have flown in from around the United States and from around the world to attend this fun and highly rewarding classes in the Meguiar's tradition of teaching people the proper techniques for detailing cars.
Cost of the class?
Each person must be a registered member of our online discussion forum and reply to your club's sign-up thread.
We started coordinating our Saturday Classes through our discussion forum in October of 2004 and we are continuing with this system in to 2008. What this means is anyone that wants to attend one of Meguiar's Detailing Classes will need to "Register" (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/register.php) with our online forum and the "Reply" to what's called a "Sign-Up Thread", which is a list of messages on a discussion forum. If you're new to forums, what you're reading right now is called a "Thread" This is the first message in the thread. All of the rest of the messages are "Replies". A sign-up thread is just a thread for people to reply to by writing something like this,
"Add me to the list"
In so doing, they have "Signed-Up" for the class. The classes are free except for this requirement. If you have never joined a forum it's real easy, but in case you have any problems you can watch this video, or read and look at the pictures of this article. But it's really quite easy.
The reason we coordinate through our forum
One of the reasons we request each person wanting to attend one of our classes to join the forum and reply to the thread is because the forum is part of the class. In the classroom, we go over a lot of how-to information on a wide variety of topics related to detailing your car and everything we discuss is also on the forum. So if you forget something you learned in the classroom or hands-on portion of the class, you will learn in the class where to find the information on the forum. Our forum and our classes are intertwined and by becoming a member before the class it will be much easier for you to go through the motion to actually interact on the forum posting questions or sharing one of your projects and we understand this and encourage it.
The forum is an educational resource. And this is one of the reasons we request that each person that wants to attend one of our classes to "Register" (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/register.php) with the forum and the "Reply" to the Sign-Up Thread for their class. All sign-up threads for all classes can be found and then -->clicked to <-- from the 2008 Schedule Thread
Changes for 2008
We will be offering 3 types of classes in 2008
25 Car Club Classes - Detailing 101
Open to Car, Truck, Motorcycle and even Boat Clubs - These scheduled for the members of a specific club. This class covers Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle including how to work using your hands of a dual action polisher. You must take this class before you can take any of the Advanced Classes and you must be able to document that you attended the class. Usually we can look up your "Reply" to the Sign-up Thread by either your forum name or account e-mail address.
9 Open Classes - Detailing 101
Open to any Registered Member of our forum that signs-up for the class via the Sign-Up Thread. Same as Detailing 101 Car Clubs except that it's open to any registered member of our forum. This is the perfect class for the members of a car club that couldn't attend with their own club due to scheduling conflicts.
4 Open Classes - Detailing 102 Advanced Classes
The Prerequisite for our Advanced Classes is attending our Detailing 101 Class. These classes will cover Hand Sanding Techniques, Air Powered DA Sanding Techniques as well as how-to use Rotary Buffers, Dual Action Polishers and even Hand Rubbing Techniques. There may be some other topics yet to be announced.
Scheduling Priority
This year, priority will be given not on a first come, first serve basis, but on the basis of allowing new clubs to come to Meguiar's. So if your club has been to our Saturday classes two or more times, we ask that you have your members that have not attended a class to sign-up for on of our "Open Classes". If you can verify that you have 15 to 20 members sign-up that have never been to a Meguiar's Detailing Class, then we can work with you on this.
Returning Car Clubs
With the success of our Saturday Class program, we are getting more and more clubs requesting dates. Therefore, we ask that if your club has already attended a Saturday Class @ Meguiar’s and you wish to come again, we must ask that at least 20 of the people attending the 2nd time are new people that did not attend the 1st class. This will ensure the classes remain open to new people that have not yet attended the class.
New Car Clubs
By new, we don't mean you just formed your club, we mean your club has never had a dedicated class just for you club and club members. If you are the coordinator for for your car club and you would like to reserve an open Saturday for your club, and your club has never been to a Meguiar's Saturday Detailing class, it is vital that you send us an e-mail as soon as you can because while you're thinking about it, chances are good there's someone in your position already sending an e-mail with a request for the same date you want. Remember, there's only so many Saturdays in a year.
