View Full Version : Never Wax Your Car Again?!?

Hey my fellow detailing colleagues :-), I came across this site - 5 Star Shine that claims that their wax lasts 5 years!! Yet their site states never wax your car again. Huh? Anyway, I personally love once a week to grab my bottle of the unparalleled NXT 2.0 and apply, as well as UQD'ing every few days until I repeat the cycle in which I thoroughly take pride and pleasure in doing. Still, I had to bring this to MOL for a discussion, as we on MOL love to deconstruct and evaluate. :db:

Will the madness ever end... :wall:
This isn't a new product, it's a marketing program. I did research on this about 5 years ago and actually bought the e-book. 5-Star was a 'vehicle' for teaching people the power of reciprocal links by a marketing guy named Glen Canady. Except now search engines take this into consideration and actually discount sites that do this.
http://the-glenn-canady-gorilla-website-marketing-course-review.com/
Looks like he's changed his original Guerrilla Marketing site to look like a video marketing library,
http://www.gorillawebsitemarketing.com/
It used to look like this, just replace Vickie's name with Glen's name.
http://www.website-marketing-secrets.com/
5-Star is a wax type product but it's like a front for the marketing ideas taught by Glen to get your website to the top of Google searches by getting as many reciprocal links as you can for your site.
A few years ago we used to get e-mails from people all the time offering us a link on their site if we would give them a link on our site. Whether these people were putting into practice the ideas taught by this marketer or not we don't know but this is what people that followed his course did, ask for and try to get as many reciprocal links as they could to boost the ranking of their site.
His system worked for a while but search engines now look at real content as the primary method of ranking a website.
At least that's how we understand search engines at this time. At the end of the day, the best way to get to the top of a search engine and stay their over time is to have good, accurate content.

Wow Mike, you're kidding, jeez... yeah I've seen it a while back and no suprise on outrageous claims. Besides, I thought you'd like in on my secret Meguiar's lifetime wax sealant, it is, do the 5 step with NXT 2.0 or #21 2.0. Now the trade secret, slowly drive car into garage, then saran wrap the car tightly. Finally, close garage and never drive it again :LOLOL:

when i bought my 02 subaru impreza wrx STi they told me it was coated in some 5 year wax, and it was warrantied.
3 weeks later, the water would no longer bead up on the car after being washed.
What a scam!
Wash daily, or other daily, wax monthly :)

Just get a bicycle.you will never wash/wax/polish again : ).Even it was truth,i cannot imagine my self not to take care and detailing my car : ).Only if some endless clear coat are invented i will use them so i will have plenty to remove up to the perfect shine : )

This "5 Star Shine" is far from reality. The longevity of protection put in your car by products (such as wax, etc.), depends on the severity and whether the car is garaged or not. There are so many conditions that can change this.

I have to agree with Mike. With all of the stuff I have read on the internet, like a polish that protects or promises to last a certain length of time I know not to buy it. No one car promise that and polishes are for shine not protection.

Ok thats funny!! :chuckle1
Anyway, I have a co worker who had a similar process done to their car initially he was happy to say that he had it done to his vehicle. Not so much anymore, to keep it looking good you still need to care for it meaning clean/polish/wax and he says there is no way it lasted 5 years as they claimed. Anyway needless to say in the end he is very disappointed.

I see shops proudly putting up bolder & bolder claims by the day...now one of the guy I had some dealings with was trying very hard to convince me to switch to their incredible (read...never heard of) "guaranteed for 6 years" car care system...one step swirl removal, glaze then the super sealant and I'll be able to keep my car UV protected, shiny and element proof for the entire 6 years...asked for samples so I could run some test before deciding then went to their workshop and see how their guys did the "magical" application...needless to say I didn't even bothered with the samples when I left...it's incredible some car owners are so easily swayed by their baseless claims but telling blanket white lies to my customers is just not the way I wanna make a living:furious1...sigh!!!

My mom had a 1989 Aerostar and the dealership suckered her into a "coating" for $200 that promised to last for 2 years, and made it so she didn't need soap (only water) during her washes.
As you can imagine, that car was a rolling example of swirls.

Here's another link with the skinny behind 5-Star Shine...
http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/10-10-2003-46362.asp
Again, this product whether it works or not is besides the point, this was an experiment in Search Engine Optimization to drive traffic to a specific website.
If you're interested in this product then simply purchase some, use it and then post your experience to this thread.
Your own test and review is the best test and review.

Best thing to do would be to go to their website and just look at the "Big Picture", does it sound too good to be true?
Besides that, order some and test it out yourself and then post your review to the forum.
