Batmobile Show Car Makeover Plus the "Joker Truck" - July 24th - Sign-up Thread
5:15pm to 10:00pm
On Thursday, July 24th we will be doing a "Show Car Makeover" to Nate Truman's 1966 Batmobile and Dana Sloan's "Joker Truck", and we would like to invite our forum members to come hang out and have some fun at Meguiar's Garage.

Dane Sloan's Joker Truck
http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/forums/photopost/data/500/JokerFinished001.jpg
Please don't arrive until after 5:15pm as we need time to free up parking spaces as employees don't start leaving until 5:00pm - Thank you!
About "Open Garage" at Meguiar's
On Thursday nights, starting at 5:30pm and going until around 10:00pm, Meguiar's will host an Open Garage in which registered members of our Meguiar's Online Discussion Forum can sign-up to try out Meguiar's complete arsenal of products and tools with experienced and trained experts on hand to help you as well as show you the proper techniques for getting show car results!
The goal of these events is to give people a chance to,
Try out products they may have never used or even known about.
Learn the correct technique for applying and removing specific products or using different tools.
These classes are not for bringing your car down to do a complete detail as in machine polishing and waxing the entire car. We will show you the products and techniques using a fender or the hood and letting you learn and practice on this one section but after that you will need to finish the rest of the car at your garage. By doing this more people can get their car into the garage and learn in the limited amount of time that we have and that's what these events are about, people learning how to detail their car, not one or two people using the garage from 5:00pm to 10:00pm to detail their entire car.
To bring your car to Thursday Night "Open Garage", you need to be a registered (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/register.php?s=)member (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/register.php?s=) and then "Reply" to to this sign-up thread.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
You are only allowed to sign-up for yourself and immediate family members that are living in your home. Friends, family and other club members will need to sign-up for themselves.
Note: Please do not show up before 5:00pm as we have to remember there are a lot of people still working and we cannot disrupt them and their duties plus the parking lot is full until regular employees begin to leave at 5:00pm
Sign-up List - Please reply and provide your real name and forum name.

Besides- I need some pointers in the art of packaging...
... And I hear that Dasher is the Shipping Master!
I haven't been to a Thursday Night gig for quite some time.
See some of the Gang. Hang out. Eat pizza. Rub paint. Sounds good.
Chris- What time will you be arriving? (tongue in cheek, there...)

Jul 3rd, 2008, 12:24 PM
Hahaha... It will be great to meet you, Kevin!
As far as I know, nothing has changed on the flight schedule; I'll be arriving at 1:45 and probably arriving at the hotel (Doubletree Club Orange) at 2:45.
Is anyone doing anything on Friday? I was thinking of going to the Marconi Museum, but nothing is set in stone.

Anybody want to do a extreme makeover on a 1988 Toyota Tercel? I have a friend that might be able to come but wants to know if anybody would be willing to help. He can post some pictures if you would like. I have seen it and it has a lot of swirls and some RIDS but nothing a rotary cant handle.
Thanks,
Ryan

Joe and I look forward to watching y'all do the work while we eat pizza and sip a Coke. :coolgleam
I have a better idea...
Joe's van could use a little TLC.
Now THAT would be a candidate for a unique Extreme Makeover...!

***Update***
This isn't in concrete yet but should be by tomorrow but it looks like we're going to have the Batmobile here for a "Show Car Makeover".
http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/forums/photopost/data/500/BatmobileFinished001.jpg
If we get this hammered down it will be here all day Wednesday and Thursday and we're going to need a team of people to help out.
We will especially need a "Wheel Team" to help polish out the aluminum Bat Wheels till they look like chrome.
Will update tomorrow if we can nail this down for these dates.

Careful what you wish for... working for Meguiar's is fast paced job and everyone is always busy, busy, busy...
When I first came to the corporate office I thought it would be kind of laid back and easy going, I was so wrong... it's a lot of fun but there's never a slow moment, there's always more to do than there's time to do it and this applies to every department, every job.
Cool thing is everyone that works for Meguiar's is passionate about their job and does top notch work.
It will be good to see you again, you won't regret changing your busy schedule around to be here for this project.
Plus you can sit in the Batmobile and make a phone call to your girlfriend and we'll take your picture... :xyxthumbs

Oh that just happens when people keep posting comments to a sign-up thread. When we first came up with the idea of a "Sign-up Thread" for coordinating our classes here and in other locations we didn't take into consideration people would start conversations in them, so sometimes it can get a little confusing.
And "no" Jessee doesn't get extra pizza... he might only get pizza bones...

Thursday Night we will have another project to tackle, the goal will be to try to flatten out the touch-up paint by sanding it flat using our
And then to keep it simple, we'll try to remove our sanding marks by hand using M105. That's the goal. If we can do this successfully then we'll turn it into a how-to article for the forum.
Here's the car and the rock chips, the owner has already cleaned the chipped area and applied the touch-up paint so it can dry and harden.

Here's are candidate car, a black BMW with two rock chips in the paint on the hood.

So somehow we'll be fitting this in with everything else that's going on. With Meguiar's products and know-how and a team of experienced people, if it can be done... it will be done...

Mum's the word on the 'ENTRY FEE'... :nervous1
I told Jason it was $65 cash to me to get in...
Far as I know it's a done deal.
Told him it's kind of a pyramid scheme thing...
I'll split with y'all THIS TIME if you keep quiet.
I have to feed my 'retirement plan' somehow. :thinking1
Kevin, I've got your retirement plan...keep polishing cars from your wheel chair. Cuz if you think you're gonna take my $65, split it with over 30 people, and expect to retire with that program...you might need to suppliment with another plan.

It will be good to have you there to help out Jason...
Thanks for changing your travel plans, this is going to be a lot of fun!
:woot2 :woot2 :woot2
There to help out? I just need a picture of the "Bat Car" for my son. I don't know anything about polishing cars, I'm there to learn from others.
Is the trigger on a rotary buffer a left handed trigger or a right handed trigger? That's my learning goal for the night.

I think you're on the wheel polishing team!
Not much of learning curve with polishing aluminum... just jump in and get your hand dirty!

***Notice***
Just so everyone's on the same page, except for a few people that have made plans with us previously, this event takes place at the regular time on Thursday starting at 5:15pm and going to about 10:00pm
If you were planning on being here before that then you need to call me and let me know so that I'm aware.
Thanks,
:)

As usual, I have to explain my philosophy.
Although, YES!- It may seem unreasonable to most ...
Even though I lose a few bucks on every sale, detail, and endeavor...
The plan is... To make it up in volume!!
Should kick in any time now... :scratchhead1

Please everyone remember that this isn't a normal "Open Garage" and you can't work on your car tonight.
This "Open Garage" is more about having fun and checking out the Batmobile.
Thanks!
