View Full Version : APC+ strong?

Hi everyone!
I was just curious if APC+ is a strong acidic solution??? Is it safe to use on wheels? It seems that after using APC+ for quite some time now, the wheels look dull. This never happened to me when I was using good old car wash soap to wash my wheels. Not to mention that the bristles in my tire brush are starting to fall off. Should I take caution in using this product?
What do you guys use for tar remover? Can I use APC+??

APC+ is not acidic, in fact, I'm almost positive it contains zero acid at all.
Wheels getting dull could be from a brush that is too rough, or not cleaning the APC+ off after washing the wheels thoroughly.
Although a lot of people use APC wheels (myself included, sometimes) it is not intended to be a wheel cleaner...try a real wheel cleaner. FYI, most wheel cleaners are FAR FAR FAR more caustic and actually do contain a lot of acid.

What type of wheels are they? polished, polished clear coated, machined clear coated, painted?
They may just need some tender loving care, my wheels get dull and they are machine clear coated and I treat them like my paint.

Along with the type of wheels, what are you diluting it to? The best, IMHO, and the safest wheel cleaner is car soap and water.

I like using the apc at a 10:1 ratio. Knock on wood no problems yet. I like the versatility of the apc. I swear by the stuff.

APC+ is my favorite cleaner. I usually use it full strength depending on what the application is. It's always been 100% safe for my on everything from tire and rims to engine bays. Again, diluting it may be necessary for certain applications. Great product. Cleans better then anything I've tried in the past. Even diluted on tires, the takes away that nasty brown look and gets it ready for you favorite dressing.

I think they're clearcoated. But this never happened when I was using normal car wash soap before.

I usually put it somewhere in between the 10:1 and 4:1 ratio.

I wouldn't even use APC+ on them. To me, that would basically be like washing the car with APC+ everytime since the wheels have a clearcoat on them. The car's paint obviously looks best when washed with a car soap, so should the wheels. Just polish them up like paint and stick with the soap and water.

Try some polish on them. #80 on chrome looks amazing! Might help to clean off your haze too.

As far as a tar remover goes, WD-40 sprayed on a rag works very well.

Clear coat paints are easily dulled and usually time consuming and difficult to restore clarity and gloss, maybe switch back to car wash soap or our new Hot Rims® Aluminum Wheel Cleaner (http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?T1=MEG+G14324)

Mike,
Can you put the dilution ratios up again. I just got some APC and APC+ and added it my arsenal of products. I have yet to try it though. Just to busy for anything it seems.
