This one is by far the winner for dirt and grime. BY FAR. Belongs to the woman who lives above me. She is very busy and works the graveyard shift as an RN at Yale Hospital. She pretty much sleeps all day so not much time to care for the Jetta. This car stood out to me since I moved into my apartment 2 months ago. It looked battered.

I spoke with this woman the day I did the Scotchbrite marred Maxima...She thought I repainted the car in the parking spot it looked so good. She explained to me how she spends winters in Northern New England (Mass, VT). She got stuck in a state of emergency (Snow Storm) and if she didn't move her car they'd tow her with a huge fine. She was already plowed in so her and her boyfriend went to town digging the Jetta out. Well, she took the steel shovel to her black finish  . There were about 30-40 R.I.D.S. (Random Isolated Deep Scratches). After washing and claying, I took 1500 grit wetsanding papers and sanded the crater (indent) of the scratches. I then touched up x 2 (10 mins apart) with Audi touch up paint. Finally, I wetsanded with 2400 grit MicroMesh papers and compounded out with Menzerna PowerGloss via rotary and Cutting Pad @ 1700 rpm.

Anyways, this was an exterior only job. It chewed up my clay bar and really needed a lot of work. :) Final processes were:

-QEW x 2
-Wolfgang Clay on paint and windows
-Rain-X to seal the glass
-Meguiar's APC+ (10:1) to clean rims, tires, and wells
-Touchup and wetsanding info above
-Meguiar's #80 via rotary and polishing pad @ 1500 rpm
-Menzerna MicroPolish via rotary and polishing pad @ 1500 rpm
-Meguiar's NXT by hand
-Meguiar's Hyper Dressing on tires, wells, and plastic trim

Now for the pics :D

I honestly don't think it's been washed in many many months. There was so much accumulated grime on the doors they were whiteish/greyish.

Here's what I'm talking about with the scratches. The big one was almost hopeless but I got it back to life pretty well.

Thank you both :)

williams22: Yeah she was very happy to get the thing close to new again.

scrub: A wash definately helped, but the paint was pretty badly stained and etched. The polish really brought the paint alive, and NXT was the 'wet' icing on the cake :D

Mike: I'm blown away by your kind words. I have to pay a lot of thanks to you for writing such thorough threads about procedures. I have learned much I know now from you and Meguiar's as a whole.

2000: The more and more I think about it...I know :) . I have adjusted my prices since this post and these pictures are on the homepage of my webtsite :D

im curious i have a similar sort of car
http://suburbanstreets.com/cars/Eunos/eunos.html
most of the time my 15" sub takes up the whole boot, but now and then i detail a family members car. I usually fold the back seat down to get the vacuum etc in & put all my products in a clothes basket. How do you go about storing your products?

Oct 19th, 2004, 05:53 PM
Thanks everyone !

Vandelete: I am more SeanDM...I like my own style. A lot of the car's attributes are pulled from various 'stilez'. JDM is one of them yes :D

Just curious... how exactly did you touch up the paint?...

I've tried but I always get blobs and botches and it never looks flush.

Your input would be great.

Thanks!
