SoCal7's at Meguiar's!

On January, 29th, 2005 Meguiar's will proudly host our Detailing 101 Class for members of the SoCal7's (http://socal7s.com/index2.php) here at Meguiar’s Corporate offices in Irvine, CA

If you plan on attending the detailing class for the SoCal7's car club (http://socal7s.com/index2.php) on January, 29th 2005, please reply to this thread and I will add your name to the list. Classes are limited to the first 30 people/cars that sign-up. After 30 people/cars have signed-up, a stand-by list will be started. This is due to limited space in the classroom.

If the class does not reach the 30 people limit by one week before the event, the class will be opened up for non members to attend up to a total of 30 people. This is because there are more people that want to atttend a class then there are Saturdays available to accomodate everyone.


If you would like to attend this event you must sign-up by replying to this thread.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are only allowed to sign-up for yourself and immediate family members that are living in your home. Friends, family and other club members will need to sign-up for themselves.

Currently there is no cost. For any event that is reserved for an organized car club, we hold open the first 30 spaces for members of the club. One week before the event, if there are any available spaces we open it to members of Meguiar's Online. Because life happens, there are often cancellation at the last moment by people on the top 30 list so chances are always very good that people on the standby list can attend.

These detailing classes primarily focus on the majors, not the minors, by that I mean, when it comes to making your car look good, making the entire finish look good is the major. Filling in tiny rock chips is the minor.

Besides that, filling in rock chips is tedious, time consuming and difficult to do a great job. The best thing you can do is to clean the surface well, and then purchase a very small, fine tipped artist paint brush and only apply small amounts of paint into the chip. Using the brush built into the lid of most touch-up paint results in placing large blobs of paint onto the chip area, which replaces one unsightly defect with another.

Rock chip repair questions come up all the time and it is a legitimate problem, but we barely have enough time in our class to cover the topics we address already.

Schedule for the day
8:30 am to 9:00 am - Coffee and Pastries - Meet & Greet and get your name tag - Shop Talk

9:00 am to 11:00 am - An in-depth Power Point Presentation covering Meguiar’s history, unique background, Consumer and Professional product lines and Meguiar’s 5-step paint care cycle.

11:00 am to 11:30 am - Questions & Answers

11:30 am to 12:00 noon - Walk-by of attendees cars to discuss the owners current car care program. Here's where we select one or two cars to detail in order to teach proper detailing techniques. We tend to choose black, and dark colored cars whose finish is in bad condition.

12:00 noon to 12:30 pm ? Lamppost Pizza with cold soda pop and water

12:30 pm to 3:00 pm ? Product demonstrations with a focus on using proper technique for applying products by hand and with the G-100 dual action polisher

3:00 pm to 5:00 pm ? Open Garage for testing and trying out Meguiar’s product on attendees cars with instruction and guidance from Instructors

The afternoon portion of the class is a hands-on experience and attendees are encouraged to put on a Meguiar’s smock and get involved. Learning is best done by participating, not watching from the sidelines.

Read this if you want to attend!
If you would like to attend a detailing class at Meguiar’s you need to become a member of Meguiar’s Online discussion forum and reply to your clubs thread in the sign-up forum.

In case of emergency, such as a canceled class, we need to be able to contact you to. Your are encouraged to check your e-mail the Friday night before the event for any notifications or cancellations. We have only canceled one class in our history due to an emergency and we did everything possible to contact everyone that was signed-up for the class, but alas, we were unable to contact everyone.

So if you want to attend a class,

A thread will be started in the Sign-up Forum (http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3596) after your club has a confirmed date on Meguiar's Online Calendar (http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/calendar.php?s=). All we ask is that you reply to the thread so that we can contact you in the event of an emergency and also so that we will have an accurate head count to order pizza, cold refreshments, and Meguiar's gift bags. Only attendees that have signed up will receive a Meguiar?s gift bag with Meguiar's products, samples and catalogs.
