I just had a tool box painted and the painter called me and said he didn't sand it but for me to just take some 2000 grit to it and then buff it out. I've never wet sanded before. I know 2K grit is very very mild and it shouldn't be a problem for me to attack.
Now I read 2hotfords thread, do I need the hi tech wash or can I just use a lube etc? Also it's a small hand held box, do I really need a sanding block?
He said he put about 8 coats of clear on it so I have some experimentability :)

Hi Scott,
Car wash soap will add lubricity to your sanding process, helping to provide a smoother sanding action and to also help prevent your paper from loading up.
Meguiar's recommends our #00 Hi-Tech Wash because it's body shop safe and formulated with wet-sanding in mind. Backing pads, (sanding blocks), help to insure you apply equal pressure over the entire surface of the paper. If you only fold the paper and use you hand you will often have distinct patterns or finger marks wherever you sand.
If you have 8 coats of clear, you should have plenty of film-build to work with.

Get somebody to hold it while you buff it out or it will be launched into space and will orbit the earth with the small parts and thing I should have had somebody hold while I tried to buff them!

Why don't you bring it down and after the class we'll sand it down and then I'll hold it while your remove the sanding marks with the rotary buffer.

It took us (well Mike) about an hour to sand and buff the top alone. I feel guilty, I kept pointing out flaws :D
But it is now FLAWLESS, hopefully he'll get pics up soon.
I've gotten to work w/ Mike about half a dozen times and it's always been a pleasure and amazing learning experience.
Gotta run, girl is yelling at me to get ready for her company party, we are an hour late FREE DRINKS :db:
btw, Mike, expect a call next week, I blamed it all on you :D ;)

I look foward to seeing the final result. Looked really good when I left. It's amazing how a small item can command intensive work. Thanks for the link, the kids and I will make use of it. Hope to see you soon.

Yea, I have a feeling it's only going to come out on those very special details and for car shows for all my QD junk.
However it fits my PC, 3 7.5" pads, 4 6" pads, and a bunch of junk in the tray perfectly.
I may have to go to Home Depot and pick up another one for everyday use :bounce
