Hi all,
To anyone thinking about purchasing a Porter Cable Dual Action polisher, if you can hold off your purchase until sometime next week, Meguiar's is putting together a Package Deal for members of Meguiar's Online.
We will be bundling a collection of products into this package so that you will have everything you need to produce show car results. This collection will of course include Meguiar's G-100a (http://www.meguiars.com/store_meguiars/product_detail.cfm?sku=G-100), the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher.
http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/gallery/data/500/2G-10083a.jpg
The Meguiar's G-100 includes a lifetime warranty :db:
I figured I would ask people to chime in with a list of products they would like to see included in the Meguiar's Online Members Only package deal?
Here's what I have so far,
2 each W-8006
1 each w-9006
1 each M-8332
1 each Tech Wax
Anyone care to make suggestions as to what you think would make a killer deal?
Feel free to add to my list, take away from my list, change the quantities in my list and a suggest a reasonalbe target price to stay under that would scream good value!
Mike

That would be AWESOME Mike! :bounce
I would like to see:
Micro fibers
Odor Eliminator
Ultimate Bonnet
The set of 3 pads WDAV99B
Quick Clay Detailing System
Maybe some professional products packaged in a small size besides a whole case
Glass Cleaner
Engine Cote
Citri gel
I hope you can package a deal without all the NXT line...already have it all.
Maybe a package for us that have most of the products, but really want a good deal on the PC and pads.:db:

also some #83
I know the professional line that I posted like the glass cleaner would do REALLY well if you could package it even in 1 gallon for us that don't need a whole case.

:bounce This is great news. First let me say hello to all, just joined and have already learned alot. Just yesterday I put a PC in my cart, just didn't know what to put in there with it. I looked at the Centenial Package but just didn't think I needed all that. I don't know all the numbers but a basic detail kit for the average car or truck would be nice. Free shipping is also a nice touch. Thanks for having a great forum to come to with question.

Since there are some, like me, who are just starting out and have always done things by hand, I don't know where to start and am still confused by all the products and corresponding numbers.
I would like a REAL starter kit to include:
G-100a
Velcro backing plate
2 Polishing pads
2 Wax application pads
2 Ultimte bonnets
Polish
Wax
Sealant
I don't know enough to use the real names or numbers so advice is needed. I use the above as reference only and am not sure of the order.
In essence, I need everything to do a basic 3 step process.
Oh ya, and FREE shipping.

LOL, I was going to go hogwild, but I want to make sure that the thing gets done!
Mike, you suggested that we suggest a target price, as well. That's kind of difficult, because I bought one PC from Coastal for $120 with the plate & weight, and the other as a 7336 (with the proper weight) for $89 at Lowes, and picked up a backing plate for $12. Meg's offers a lifetime warranty, and each of us would have to decide the value of that for ourselves.
I'd say, keep it under $200. And offer two levels; a "paint care survival kit", which would be what you have listed, maybe with clay, wash, and mf towel or bonnet, and a "complete care survival kit", which would include a the paint care kit plus vinyl protectant (#40 or NXT; I'd choose #40 because it's both cleaner and protectant), maybe odor eliminator, rubber dressing, a couple applicators and towels, glass cleaner, and carpet cleaner, and the set of little brushes. Keep that one under $300.

I agree.... make a couple options, if the price is right I just might be tempted to sell my porter cable and get the Meguiars for the warranty alone. I would be interested in some ulltimate bonnets. I have never used one and I hear people rave about them might be nice to toss one in to get people to try them.

This really looks like a good idea. I really got hooked on detailing in the last month and have been reading and learning everything I possibly can about detailing.
I really feel this is a great opportunity to get guys like me permanently hooked on detailing.
However, I feel that the replies to this post are a little overboard. I'm seeing way too many products listed here!
I think you should really consider the college guy. The broke college guy who found a new hobby that he is really into.
The Basics:
Electric Dual Action Polisher, (2) W-8006, (1) W-9006, Ultimate Wipes or Ultimate Bonnet
As for products I think smaller bottles of DACP and NXT wax would be best. The samples should be just enough to detail 3-4 vehicles.
Consider the college guy who would love to save a little. I am thinking of a price somewhere around $120-150. But you’re thinking, “Hey, that’s a lot of loss in profits.” If you want to get customers for life, take risks and make a deal work. This deal would work. Thanks.:)

I personally would like to see the porter cable, and a top fo the line product allowing one to do professional level detailing, without having to own a shop or get a second mortgage. I would add PlastX and glass treatment products to the list.

I would have to agree that a basic starter kit would probably be best. I would focus more on the equipment that would include most of the items already referenced to here and also with sample sized product. Get the equipment in the hands of the users and they will buy the product needed to work with it.
Thanks for asking us Mike :bigups
I was going to buy one from coastal tool today but I am going to hold off now and see what happens.

I purchased my Porter Cable from Classic Motoring Accessories. I liked the way they packaged their PC, its accessories and then the various product lines. It gave some choices. I think that there should be a basic equipment package that does not include a product. Then have perhaps two or three product packages -- Consumer, Professional and NXT.
The PC and Accessories should be at or under $200 to make it a special deal.
Yes, I have a certain "fondness" for CMA. They are most responsible for me becoming an obsessive detailer. :D

Well, I just bought mine a month ago. My local guy is running a deal on the DA's for $160, but I think I finally figured out the difference. I got a G100, while the current offering is G100A . The G100 is just the polisher, no backing plate or pad. Anyways I bought the polisher, a cutting, polishing, and finishing pad, a backing plate, and a bottle of DACP. Total with tax was about $230 delivered to my house and with a personal demonstration (damn my local rep is awsome). Aim for this general price area for a similar setup and I think it would be good. Considering I got a full setup for about what Meguiar's asks for the polisher, backing plate and one pad.
Hmm, now that I realize that a bottle of DACP is almost $20 it just made that deal look even sweeter. Anyways, hats off to Meguiar's for offering a special deal to it's own forum members. It just makes me like them that much better.

Just came from the autopia (sp) web site and they have the same idea. G100a with backing plate, orange, white, and others, on sale 179. Seems like thats a good range to start. I agree with others that parts are the way to go with maybe a few samples. Then people can try and find what they like and buy, buy, buy.
Just my 2 cents. Worth 2 cents
Thanks for all the great info.

I just got a shipment today of cleaner, polisher, and wax so I'm not needing any products. I WOULD like to purchase the following:
G-100a
Velcro backing plate
2 Polishing pads
2 Wax application pads
2 Ultimate bonnets
Maybe this is a good option for those of us who have the products, but need the G-100a to get us going. Thanks for putting this together Mike! :xyxthumbs
Keeping the price as low as possible is a big plus for me also. I'm saving for engagement ring for my G/F so I'm really having to watch (limit is more like it) all this "car stuff".

I'm also in college so I can't contribute much. I would love the DA and maybe some good deals on other items, but it would have to be a really good deal. I love the idea of no shipping for smaller orders. I want to buy some Endurance, so that would be great. Also, is there a way to get a smaller cheaper bottle of #40 dressing that everyone loves so much?

That would be a sweet price! Our more knowledgeble members have contributed so much to this site and probably brought Meguair's a lot of business since we are always recommending products to one another.
Here's an idea, maybe Meg's could offer several different deals the best of which would be offered to senior members (x number of posts for example). I would personally be happy to have free shipping with say a $10 or $20 order, and a good deal on the DA.

I have been lurking the site for a while, trying to learn everything I can before I buy my new car this summer. Currently I have a black car that I want to "practice" on and hopefully improve the value of my trade in.
Long story short, I've had trouble deciding if I should get the PC DAP, because there are so many different products, waxes, etc... However, I would jump at the chance to pick up a "basic" package!
In the package I would like to have the following:
1. Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher
(And all the goodies backing plates, etc)
2. Production application and Polishing Pads
(one for each product included in the package)
3. Cleaning product
(For me, something that could be used 3-4 times a year to maintain/improve the car's finish.)
4. Polishing product
(Again, minimally aggressive product that will maintain/improve my car's paint)
5. Finishing product (s)
(This might be NXT wax or NXT wax and traditional wax for layering)
6. An ultimate bonnet
Simply, I have a healthy supply of clay bars and hand waxes, but I'm really looking for a package that is dedicated to the use of the PC Dual Action Polisher. The packages currently available on the site are devoted to different levels of specific car care. I'd love to see the same sort of options for customers that will be using the PC.
All in all it's a great idea and I'm looking forward to an update! All I need is a little (very little) incentive and I'm in!
Thanks again!

Welcome to MOL dmrothfu!
A PC would make you black car look good enough to increase the value of it...To the point that it would more than pay for the price of the PC package.
I detailed a car for a lady last year, and she later told me that she was going to trade it in...Until I removed most of the scratches and restored the gloss to it with a PC.

Hi all,
I ran into a problem in that we are transitioning our Irvine warehouse to Tennessee where we manufacture our products.
Because of this, I will not be able to post the package deal until probably next week as the Tennessee warehouse gets ready to start fulfilling orders.
I have read thought the requests and will post the two package deals next week. Until then, if anyone still has a request or a wish list item, please add it, it's not too late!

Mike: I received a catalog from Meguiars and they have several "packages" for the PC. I don't have the catalog near me, but it was pretty comprehensive.
I'd rather support this on-line forum and get the purchase from here if you could do some similar packages.
I don't own a pc yet and have been looking and luking for a good package (pc, pads, polish, etc).
See if you can run down the catalog for a list of what they were offering.

I didn't know when I posted this that the warehouse was moving to Tennessee and all the behind the scenes work taking place to make that huge undertaking take place.
I turned over 4 package deals on Monday after reading through all the messages in this thread. Someone in Sales and Accounting will have to work out the numbers and then it will have to be approved. After those two things, I will announce what the package deal(s) will be.
Again, I apologize for the delay, I didn't know understand how long this was going to take or I wouldn't have started the thread until now.

I know this can be hard to understand, especially since Meguiar’s is actually a small company in comparison to other companies, but there is a lot of paperwork, bean counting, logistics, and actually planning involved in order to set this deal up, not just for one time, but as an ongoing special for members of Meguiar's Online.
The planning part is the warehouse will need to know how many kits to build? I'm better at removing a scratch and restoring a show car shine to someone's car, not guessing how many will be sold.
I have to do some paper work on my end, and then turn my results back over to management for approval. I'll turn in the paperwork tomorrow, but the person I'm turning it over to will not receive it until Monday.
So... I apologize for the wait, but I should be able to post the deals next week.
I am so sorry it has taken so long, when I first posted this, I never knew what was involved, I thought it would be simple and easy. Please bare with me...
Your humble forum friend...

Mike, honestly, there is no need for you to apologize. I think we're all appreciative of the opportunity to be part of a special deal. I'm amazed that it has come together so quickly since you're first post. Without going into a great deal of detail, I've been part of analysis, pricing, and product roll out and it takes an enormous amount of time.
All in all, keep up the great work, the great forum, and I'll be looking forward to next week!
Likewise, if it helps with your paperwork, I'm certainly in for what I'm guessing is the "PC and products", and maybe the "premium" package depending on price and contents.
Thanks again!

You could call it the "ULTIMATE DETAILING KIT"
The kit should have enough supplies, materials and instructions to complete a first class detailing job on your vehicle.(INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR)
The price should be fair and the shipping free.
Beercan31
Apr 30th, 2004, 05:49 PM
ok Here a Little HELP how about asking the members If they would "preorder" then the warehouse will know exactly how many kits to assemble and how well the members except this "new deal", you would have a cash advance to get the project off the ground. Then you can add 8-10 % on that for stragglers but that is where the guessing game comes in to effect..
But I did not say this.

Well, I'm not sure if you have had a chance to read through the entire thread to see whats up, but, from talking to Mike, there is a big process involved with getting this package deal together... getting all the accounting people involved, along with having signatures from all the execs & officers, etc... Mike even had to write a very long compelling sales pitch for the execs to read so they will buy into the idead of this package....
From what I gather, the package should be available pretty soon... My guess, probably by sometime next week...

When you make an announcement of this nature,it's only fair to put it into a reasonable time frame.
The satisfaction of the consumer is the most important factor.
To let the consumer hanging from week to week is not a realistic practice.
This thread had over 6000 reviews and 140 replies.
Businesses make decisions on a daily basis.they set a deadline and that's the end of it.
Set the Date make the Annoucement and lets roll so that we all can get started.
If its not going to happen,"just let us know".

I'm not trying to downplay anyone, but we all have taxing schedules,at least I do.
Till I order the package deal, receive it and complete my jobs, fit them into my schedule,I'll be thrown back a bit in time also,
This is why I was anxious to get some type of a response,so that I could do my planning also.

Well I must say I am very glad Mike told us about the package deal early and asked us for our input. He didn't have to do that, probably wishes he didn't now. It doesn't get much better than that. I was ready to order when he told us and I decided to wait, I don't think I will be sorry. Right now we know we have a choice of three deals, free shipping, and all the knowledge we can get from Mike and others, FOR FREE. It is said that good things come to those who wait. Hi Mark, (and everyone else in this thread),
In hindsight, I should have put the package deal together and then posted the thread, but that wouldn't work either.
To put together a package deal, all of the items must be listed with their part numbers and prices.
Things like shipping, a shipping box, that will hold all the items, labor to put the items into the box, a forecast for how many kits will be needed, and so many other things need to be addressed before making the offer.
You see, I just thought it would be simple, but behind the scenes, a lot of other wheels are put into motion.
I couldn't really ask for input after putting the packages together because all of the items in each kit must be included when the kit can be figured out.
What a mess I created. I apologize.
I'm suppose to hear something tomorrow.

Mike, no need to apologize, your doing a good thing. I waited to get out of school, to get out of service, for the perfect woman, for first child, waiting for a PC is a drop in the hat. Keep up the great work.

My finger is poised above the buy button.:xyxthumbs
Thanks, Mike.
Here are a couple of suggestion for consideration on any future on-line member offers.
Why not just do a fixed % discount weekend for on-line member orders or maybe a free shipping weekend offer. Perhaps even an inventory clearance offer on overstocked or end of life items. I think these types of specials would require a lot less decision and packaging efforts, would be less costly to implement and could be turned on and off as deemed appropriate by management.
I have to give you and Meguiar's a lot of credit. You recognize that we are passionate about our shiny vehicles and the products that keep them that way. You recognize that we, your customers, are your strongest asset. You treat us with respect and give us service that goes well beyond what would be considered normal. You make us into Raving Fans by delivering excellent products and services in an excellent way. You are the leaders of the Meguiar's cult. I'm happy to be a member of that cult. I wear my 4 year old Meg's cap with pride. As you can see, we are your best advertising.
A big thanks to you Mike and to the whole Meguiar's team.

The longer the wait, the more I am second guessing myself. I am probably an amateur compared to the rest of you but I love my cars none the less. I have an affinity for black porsches and the love-hate relationship I share with their paint! I love the feel and appearance of the cars after a good, i.e. expensive detailing that includes an orbital applied polish followed by a hand wax. This is something I'd like to be able to do on my own. I generally wash the cars about 3x a month and wax every 2 mos. However, my feats are no match for a professional detail with the polishing step. I can only imagine the feeling of satisfaction after spending a few hours on a weekend day to yield the same results as one of these professionals. However, I fear I may permanently mar my black paint. I do have a silver car that I plan to do first with the new PC to make sure I can do this.
Is the PC something I can master or should I leave this up to the pros? I REALLY like to do all my own maintenance and work - just something about taking care of your own car that I think all of you understand.
thanks

Frank, I bought my PC about a month ago because I just couldn't stand waiting anymore for this deal :D I was also somewhat concerned that I'd "mess up" my paint on my new Mach 1 Mustang. You have nothing to be worried about! As long as you clean the car well (I will never buy anything but NXT wash after trying it) and use clean MF towels & the PC polishing pads, you should be happy with the results. I think the trickiest part is figuring which products in the cleaner, polish, and wax lineup give you the results YOU are wanting.
Don't fear the PC, you'll never go back to waxing by hand!! :db:

I think it is almost impossible to hurt your paint with a PC, once you use one you will NEVER go back, forget waxing by hand, use your PC, wipe clean with a MicroFiber

Same here. I can wax a lot faster by hand...and Aurora40 can attest to that when we both started at opposite ends of a 350Z at the Autopia/Meguiars meet. Him by PC, me by hand. I met him on his first panel....I got about 80% of the side done to his 20%!
If I am using Tech Wax though, I find it works better using the PC but for a pure wax where you are just covering the paint, I can go much faster by hand.

I am one who prefers to apply wax with a PC.
The reason for this is because the PC helps to put on a more uniform and thinner coat than I can do by hand...Not to mention that some products like MPPP have polishing qualities to them that I feel need to be worked into the paint, and a PC does a real good job of working in a product.

Hey Meguiar's!
Father's Day is coming up soon! Don't miss the opportunity!!!
I've already hinted to my wife (and kids) that I would like a PC for Father's Day.
I'd like to give you the business; however, if I don't see something soon, I will have no choice but to buy elsewhere.
My wife already told me to order the PC so I'll have it for Father's Day weekend.
I just wanted to check this thread to see if there was any new updates.
Any information on package contents or timeframe would greatly be appreciated. I can't wait much longer! :)

Mike, Your intentions were very noble and I know that you wanted very much for this to go through.
I must confess that this weekend I went to Lowe's and bought a PC7336 for 109.00 had the DT's. Anyway now I need to buy the backing plate and some pad's, and also one of the package deals already offered. I already got the New Products Package and the Removal Kit last week and am amazed at the quality. I was just wondering, and if it's not possible just say so. Do you think with a large order from online we could still get the free shipping offer? Just asking. We all know you were just thinking about us when you tryed to get this offer through.
Thanks and I think you are a good friend to us all.

Well.... I've got the feeling a lot of you are getting impatient waiting for this so I figured I'd pass along this. The rep I use locally to buy all my goodies from just redesigned his web site with a bunch of new stuff too. He now offers the G100 in package deals. I bought my PC from him for the still offered price of $159.95!
Here's the link (http://www.autodetailingsolutions.com/Porter%20Cable%20Specials.htm)
In particular this is one that caught my eye:
4) G100 Polisher with velcro backing plate.
2 W8006 velcro foam pads.
32 oz. Dual Action Cleaner Polish.
16 oz. NXT Tech Wax.
32 oz. Last Touch gloss enhancer spray.
32 oz ready to use Hyper Dressing,
32 oz ready to use Glass Cleaner.
32 oz. ready to use All Purpose Cleaner.
32 oz ready to use Super Degreaser.
12 oz. super concentrated 400 to 1 dilution Hyper Wash car soap.
1 Scratch resistant wash mit.
10 16"x16" Premium Microfiber towels.
2 applicators pads.
Reg.............$299.95...............Sale $ 259.95
I believe he offers free shipping on orders over $200 as well still. He's still got the best deal on a Meguiar's lifetime warrantied PC polisher I've found.

Mike, I'd like to see something similiar to the packages you guys frequently have at the big car shows. I think the last one I saw included DACP, ScratchX, NXT tech wax and a few other things at the LA Roadster Fathers Day show.
Also, maybe including something like #26 instead of the NXT
also, any chance of us local buyers being able to pick it up to save some shipping? Do you guys sell stuff out of your Irvine office for those that attend your detailing days, etc?

Another thought and don't know if it's been mentioned, but since it seems most of us want a different variety of products maybe just a flat discount. See what most of your packages save percentage wise and offer us a discount that's say open for only a week or so. Now the internet is a huge thing as we all know and word travels fast on killer discounts, so maybe to save your guys butt a little offer it only to members who were registered before the sale starts.

A while back I talked to a someone on the Meguiar's hotline way back when I was using (ghasp) an orbital buffer. They said terry bonnets tend to instill swirls. I would think it would be even worse on a DA.

That sure beats the other web deals, thanks Mike for all your hard work on this. I'll be ordering mine soon.
What should I order for the other $50 worth of supplies?
I've seen some combo packs listed. I probably need another foam pad, ultimate bonnets, something to remove wax...etc.....

As for product to pick up with this order, if you're new to detailing and don't own a pile of microfiber polishing cloths, I would recommend the new
Ultimate Wipe 20 pack, part number M-9910B - $70.00 (http://www.meguiars.com/store_meguiars/product_detail.cfm?sku=M-9)
http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/gallery/data/500/220Pack.jpg
These are a premium quality microfiber polishing cloth just like we use at all of the Saturday Clinics here at Meguiar's. Buy purchasing 20 of these you insure that you'll have enough to detail 2-3 cars before having to make a wash load, and by owning 20 microfibers, you can Wash them all together in your washing machine using the Small setting.
It's kind of hard to wash 1-2 microfibers in the washing machine and you don't want to wash and dry microfiber polishing cloths or bonnets with other things like cotton towels because they will act like magnets and attract all of the stray fibers onto themselves.
Then, you'll have to pick them off one by one before using them.
At $70.00 for 20, that makes these premium quality microfibers $3.50 a piece which is an excellent value for a quality microfiber.

Thanks Mike, but I was thinking more along the lines of pads or attachments for the PC.

You can never have too many polishing pads for future details, and #83 and #80 Speed Glaze are awesome product that work really well with the PC. For polishes, Deep Crystal Polish or #81 hand Polish.
Don't forget about some of the cool new products in the new Detailer Line, as well as Microfiber bonnets.

That is a great deal! Might just have to pick a Meguiars one up and sell the Porter-Cable on ebay, The Warranty alone is worth it.... I will just have to see.

No, not at this time. It has a tendency to step on the toes of our distributors.

As a suggestion for non toe stepping on...
Talk to your distributors, and find out when they plan to not offer a "special DA deal package" and for a limited time, offer one of your online offers.
Example if most of them plan to run Summer or Christmas packages, Meg's online could run a Spring, Fall or Per/Post Holiday package.... as in Halloween/Turkeyday/Superbowl offer. That way if you run your online special it's either before or after theirs.
Megs new TV commerical...
You hear a sound, your not quite sure what it is... it's getting louder and you hear the theme from Apocalypse Now and a fella using a DA, he wipes the sweat from his brow to exclaim.. "How I love the smell of NXT in the morning!" Scottwax2
Ok.. I'll put the top back on my can of NXT now, I'm starting to get weird.:o
