Hello mike
Hey just wanted to know . I have heard you guys are discontinuing engine kote and Citri Gel ? can you advise me on what you will be replacing it with. Also I used your speed glaze for the first time yesterday and a brand new 8" foam pad about 1000 rpm and it builds up just wondering if you had similar instances with this product?
Also on May 6 ish I and a Radio Program called "In the Pits" on 1200 am will be handling a car show live in Leesburg VA. We are doing one tomorrow night but it is a local car club handling this one any way. The radio show wanted me to ask if you would be interested in giving or donating anything like small bottles of waxes or hats etc. I know Mothers is sending ten 5gallon buckets of car care products to this event. I will be answering questions and giving a detail seminar to the local car club but I was just wondering on your response? I will contact Rod Kraft and see if he might want to show up? Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,
Yes it is true, Engine Kote and Citri-Gel are two product in Meguiar's Detailer Line that are being discontinued.
I will announce the first week of May, the new Detailer Line being introduced. Some products like the Engine Kote and the Citri-Gel are being discontinued while new products are being introduced.
As far as your other question,
I don't use the M-66 enough to tell you if what you're seeing is normal. One of our Moderators here, SqkyKln, who is a Professional Detailer uses this product quite a bit and may be able to answer your questions. Perhaps it is related to paint type?
Why don't you check with Rod on some prizes for the show and let me know what happens.

Aaaahhhhhhhhhh you can't discontinue engine kote :wall: It is the best thing I have found for my engine compartment. Guess I am going to have to start hording all the gallons I can find :D
Will it be replaced with a similar product?

At this time, no.
Sorry.

Rather than discontinue it I would think a good idea would be to package it in spray bottles and market it to the consumer. Just a thought maybe you can pass on to those that make these decisions?
I am imagining it may not be selling well because professional detailers seem hesitant to do engines these days.

I have been trying to buy a gallon of engine kote and its very hard to find locally everyone keeps sending me to meguiars but I don't want a case.
Why is the detailer line only avaliable in cases from meguiars?

I just ordered a gallon from Auto Body Depot (http://www.autobodydepot.net/scripts/depot.exe?pgm=depotgate.bbx) . They also have Citri Gel in gallons as well as most of the detailer line. Shipping is also very reasonable. $7.95 for my order of EK, Hi Tek pads and a bunch of spray and squeeze bottles.

Mike,
Isn't M-66 Quick Detailer.......M-80 is Speed Glaze

Hey,
Yes, Speed Glaze is indeed #80. Mike is getting old, that's all! :D
As for the product building-up on a pad, I have not had too many problems though I do make it a habit to clean my foam pads with a nylon brush after every second panel. I also run the rotary at ~1300 RPM when applying the #80. The product does break down rather quickly but the results are worth it!! :)

I have the same results, if you dont clean the pad after every panel or two you will get that gummy buildup in spots.
I really like #80 I usually spin the rotary around 1400 so it looks like we are working it the same and getting the intended results.
Like mentioned brush the pad after every panel or 2.

Mike, you've had some good things to say about Citri-gel; isit worth it to get some, or will the new product be better? Also, Final Detail, same question, Extra, same Q, EK, same Q.

Hey Mosca, IMO Extra isn't worth it. I don't think it's that great. It cleans like APC+, but is harder to rinse away fully. It also has been leaking slowly from the bottle I have, and it corroded the metal shelf it was on. I now have it in a bag. It was sort of like Simple Green in that respect. I've never had APC+ do that.
Final Detail is sooo totally worth it. It's incredible. I also really like EK for specific purposes like wheelwells and on lower body plastics like my air dam. I don't use it on a lot of stuff, but I love it on the stuff I use it on. I never used Citri-Gel, but I might have to pick some up.

Hi Tom,
I love Citri-Gel for cleaning wheels because it's safe on anything and because it's a Gel it has what we call a lot of dwell, or hang-time. Meaning you don't have to work or rinse it right away, in fact you can allow it to set and penetrate road grime and brake dust before agitating and rinsing off.
Cool product, hate to see it go. It's also very safe from a human point of use. If I were you, I would try to find a gallon or two, I'm sure once you use it you'll like it.
Citri-Gel - No replacement
Engine Kote - No replacement
Final Detail - Will be replaced with "Last Touch", same product with one minor change.
Extra is not part of the Detailer line, it's a Consumer Line product and I'm not sure of the status.
I have pictures and information on the new Detailer Line that I will upload and share next week. I cannot do it until after Wednesday.

Its always a bummer to see a product go but I am sure there is a reason. how long till "Last Touch" will be avaliable?

If you order from Meguiar's Customer Care,
1-800-347-5700
It should be shipping out of our warehouse now. I'm pretty sure we have started a policy to sell single gallons now too. (I might be wrong)

Ok I keep hearing Citri-Gel is going bye bye with no replacement, but I havent heard *why* it is being killed off? To me it is one of the best products Meguiars makes. Any light on this Mike?

The primary reason that the entire Detailer line is being revamped is due to environmental regulations that are rolling down the pipe as we speak. California, as usual, is one of the first states to experience this dramatic decrease in VOC content on products and thus, the rest of us have to suffer in the interim. Unfortunately for us, these regulations will be 'nation-wide' by 2008 (I think it was 08) and thus, many of the 'bathtub blenders' (small, private label wax companies) will be forced to reformulate or close their doors. Clean-air is at the forefront of enforcement and has ultimately killed this product.
Sorry Cujo. I'm a HUGE fan of Citri-Gel myself. Like Mike... I'm only the messenger here. :(

Thanks Rock ... man that is sad that it will be no longer :( That is one of my favorite products of any. Is there anything like it from Meguiars or anyone else?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Unfortunately, at the moment, Meguiar's doesn't have a product that will directly replace Citri-Gel as it was a very poor performer in the sales arena relatively speaking. Like many enthusiasts, it was a staple product in my aresonal.

It seems Citri-Gel and Engine Kote just sold in pathetically low quantities, so they are gone... It does sound like some aspects of Citri-Gel have been incorporated into the new cleaner products. APC+ is also gone, though now there is just APC which is a new product with the same name. It sounds like it should perform similarly to APC+ and should deliver great fabric results like APC+ did. The clay is gone from the detailer line too, and now there are two Mirror Glaze clays that seem to stay off your fingers better than the Detailer clay did. It worked great but always got all over my fingers. The Quik Clay was also revamped, and while I didn't use it at the detail day, some folks did and I didn't see it ever streak, so it seems they addressed that shortcoming of the previous Quik Clay. :)
I think one more gallon of Engine Kote should keep me stocked for 10 years easily. It's great for the stuff I use it on!

I still have 2 gallons of APC+, but I did just order 2 gallons of each of the CG and EK :)
Any other word on EXTRA?

Jeez!
Aside from the replacement for FD sounds like its time to find another manufacturer that can provide as good cleaning products as the Meg's Detailer line if that's possible

Good Luck on that one :) Meguiars is being proactive on making their entire line VOC compliant "before" the deadline rolls around. I think what you are going to see is a lot of companies scrambling at the last minute to comply with these new regulations.

Well, they still have the glass cleaner, there will still be an APC+ performing product, just not called APC+... And they still have excellent degreasers, the clay got better, and they have some vinyl/rubber products coming out that sound cool.
As far as Engine Kote, I doubt you could find anyone anywhere that makes a product like it. It was really unique and cool, just not many people were interested apparently... :(
I never used Citri-Gel, but there is a product that should have similar cleaning power, just not the dwell time/clinginess of it (which I imagine was one of the big pluses about it, so that may be small comfort).

I have enough EK to last me a long while but when I eventually run out I've read acrylic floor shine such as Mop n Glo is a nice alternative. I compared the two in cups side by side and they sure do appear extremely similar. Those who I've read about who've actually used the floor shine report good results :xyxthumbs
