Can't say I ever did any maintenance to my Makita and although it still works the bearings howl under load. I'm going to send it in to be rebuilt.

Periodic maintenance of any mechanical tool is a good idea, I'm not sure how difficult it would be on a tool like the Makita but I'm sure Makita offers some type of recommendations and directions. If you discover these things, please feel encouraged to post them to this thread.

hey mike,
knowing that your makita rotary has served you right for many years and is a momentus item to you.... how many years have you had/used it? :)

I purchased it in 1988.

It's out in the garage right now ready to go howl and all. I've removed the original power cord years ago and wired in my own cords using long extension cords so I don't have to use a secondary cord, I can just plug in to a customer's electrical outlet wherever it is and go to work. I like a 50' cord, 25 is too short and 100' is too much cord to drag around.

Have any of you ever had a small amount of oil seap out of the machine when stored on a angle, (head slightly down). Makita by the way.

Hey Ranger72,

Yes, I get oil leaking out the heads of all three of my rotaries: 2 Makitas and 1 Dewalt. It does not seem to bother anything. I am starting to wonder if it pressure from expansion causing it.

Nope! Like I said, all three of mine do it! And they are different brands!
