Lynn has a new rig, it's a brand new 04 Honda Pilot she drove home Sunday night. The finish is black, (of course), with a blue metallic flake.

While we really like the car, were sorry to say the finish has the customary dealer instilled swirls.

One more...

Before I could stop them, they gave us a complimentary car wash

After we arrived home, I wiped the hood down with some Quik Detailer and the ran my hand over the finish, sure enough, bonded contaminants, and plenty of them.

So looks like for once, I get to do my own car. First up, rewash the entire car and remove whatever dressing they used on the tires.

Now that's a nice ride, Mike! I bet Lynn will love it. I am a big Honda fan -- they are great cars and they last forever. Those chrome rims look really nice with the black paint. I know you like black, but are you a big fan of chrome as well? Those are a factoy option, right? I noticed in the Meguiar's catalogs that just about all the vehicles have chrome rims. I especially like the black Lexus GS they used for the Hot Rims demo. Anyway, enjoy your new ride and be sure to post some after shots.

Yes, they are a factory option along with the other chrome. We both like the chrome. I think it goes back to loving hot rods with chrome wheels.

The after pictures will be later, he didn't get to work on it much today because I wanted to drive it.

:iagree: , can't tell if it's the photos or the swirls but its hard to pick up the flakes. I bet removing the swirls alone will improve the abilitly to see the flakes THAN nxt will really knock your socks off.
nice ride!:xyxthumbs hope you enjoy it.

Thanks!

The color is called Nighthawk Black Pearl and it is very hard to see the blue flake. The flake is a very dark blue and I didn't notice tit until after I got it home and looked at it close up in bright sun.

Sweet new ride Lynn :xyxthumbs

What a bummer about the dealer installed swirls though. How will you ever find someone to ge tthem out though ;)

My wife and I just recently (Sunday) bought her a 04 Explorer. I had them write into the deal that there would be no work done on the paint. They thought that was a little wierd but then when we took delivery they thouhgt it was even stranger the way I was inspecting the paint and not looking at anything else on the car. But there was no swirls that I could find.

What's the worry with one of the nations best living under the same roof.........:db: :db:

Yeah, I'd be afraid of black too. But these folks know what they are doing so no worries. I might be getting a black 99 Olds Aurora soon. I live on a gravel road, so you can imagine why I'm worried about black. Besides the tendency to fade and swirl, it also shows up the dust really bad. I guess I might need more quick detailer!

Black is too high maintenance for me. I enjoy it when somebody pays me to make it look nice though!!

So far, I find washing the roof to be the hardest thing to do. Especially since I'm doing my best to not touch the sides, and to use the least is best method of washing.

Tell you what.... as soon as I get some free time, the roof is getting three coats of NXT Tech Wax and then it's never being parked outside except when were out using it.

Lynn's the lucky one, I do all the washing and detailing of exteriors!

We already picked up a rock chip so I think were going to have SqkyKln install a clear bra.

While it's nice to drive, so far I prefer the 73 Blazer or the 59 Caddy, especially now since we took the top off the Blazer...

My 71 3/4 ton, four wheel drive had an 8" suspension lift, a 4" suspension to frame lift, and then 4" body lift with 44" Monster Mudders. It was also a full convertible with a big block 402 chevy engine, two ton Military transfer case, 4:11 gears with detroit lockers front and rear.

I'll scan a picture of it one of these days. Fun truck, use to pull the drag boat all over Oregon with it.

Hey Mike,

You had a Detroit Locker in the Front end? That must have been a little scary on slippery roads!
