Any time the paint is touched, the possibility of defects goes up. Cheap towels can also cause defects. So can too much pressure. Quick detailers should only be used to remove light dust. Anything more, then the risk of defects is increased.

If the scratches are deep, M205 or UP may not remove them if doing it by hand. You may need something stronger like UC. The only way to tell is by a test spot.

Look into the harbor freight DA. I believe it's on sale at the moment for like $55. You just need pads and a backing plate for it.

There are also some easy modification you can do to the Harbor Freight DA that make it more usable. Look on YouTube for some great step by step videos.

Applying Ultimate Polish or M205 Ultra Finishing Polish by hand would both be great starting points to try to address these defects. We would suggest applying these products with a soft foam applicator pad like our X3070 Foam Applicator Pad and removing with a high quality microfiber towel like our X2020 Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel. If these products do not work to remove the defects we would recommend using our Ultimate Compound as a next step.

The use of a machine for paint polishing will maximize the performance of the product being used as well as deliver faster and easier results. Meguiar's has a couple different options for machine polishing, Meguiar's D/A Power System drill attachment and Meguiar's MT300 Dual Action Polisher. More information on these tools can be referenced at the following below links. I have also provided the link to our "Beginners Guide to the Different Types of Paint Polishing Tools" which is a great article for more technical information on how different machines work.
