  • 2010 VW Jetta Black Magic Pearl

A bit of background on this detail. One of my good friends neglects his cars. Like if they have paint on them still of somesort after a year or two I am impressed...

With that said over the last few years I have been trying to get him to take better care of his vehicles. Generally I'll do something like cleanup the interior with him and show him proper ways to take care of things.

Over the summer he bought a new to him Jetta. Of course he had to buy a black car. The last person that should own a black car.
I inspected the paint the day he bought it. Minor flaws but not bad.

Fast forward 6 months and the paint is trashed. In the end it is still far from perfect, but it was a huge makeover. And there were quite a few lessons learned here. Residue control became a huge issue very quickly with how much I was having to correct.

The car was "clean" when he brought the car over. I hit it with D114 at a waterless dilution and wiped down the remaining dirt and proceeded to clay using a nanoskin clay mitt.

The hood and front fenders were so bad I actually had to bring out the rotary with M100 on a foam cutting pad. Multiple passes.
Rest of the car got M100 on foam cutting pad using the MT300. Followed up with M205 on a foam polishing pad.
Car was topped with PP365 since he is lazy and this will be the only protection on this car for a while.

These are the only before pics I have to show how bad it was, but I will upload a video too showing the 50/50 shot. You can really see how bad it is there.

    Finished

    PP365 beads!

Outside in the sun the next day

Next time he brings the car over, I will be taking care of the wheels, wheel wells, and engine bay to get them up to snuff.

Nicely done. Hopefully he realizes how good it looks and doesn't let it get trashed again.

Thank you Mike! He said he loves how the car looks. This is the second car he has owned in this color, and the first you can actually tell has pearl in the paint. LOL
I'm slowly working on him to take better care of his cars. You'd think someone that modifies cars would be into keeping the rest of it clean... But they don't always go hand in hand for some people.
