  • Meguiar Scratch X 2.0 isn't very effective

For a product that retails at $8-9. It removes very light scratches, but those are even barely noticeable to begin with, but the medium and large scratches, which are still clearcoat, it only makes them less noticeable, but not much, they can still be seen even if you do it a few times.

I emptied the product into a different container and put body lotion, returned to Walmart and got my money back I still have the product and may use it on fine scratches, but anything else, has to be sanded down, where you actually create a haze and then polished, and even this method won't remove it 100%, but it will look better than using scratch X

That's the thing with scratches, the only way to make it not noticeable, is to remove the clearcoat around it, basically one step closer to clearcoat failure, there is no way around it. Scratch X is "clear coat safe" and this is main reason why it doesn't work for medium scratches. It's like if you create a scratch on soil with your foot, the only way to make the area even is to remove the surrounding soil.

    I am not a lawyer.
I don't work for Meguiar's or MMM nor am I affiliated with them, other than being a humble MOL Forum user.

Starting roughly 1970, while U.S. laws began improving the inclusion and accuracy of required product labeling, they have also improved product tampering laws. Changing a product, without changing the label may put others at risk. Although manufacturers test their products for safety, they do not test them for unauthorized product modification. Hand lotion provides the benefit of allowing the chemicals to be absorbed into the skin. Mixing with other chemicals could have negative consequences for someone using the mixture.

It might be good to review US Code Title 18 Part I (crimes) Chapter 65 and look for the sections on Tampering With Consumer Products.

You should be able to find the penalties for product tampering as well as "knowingly communicates false information that a consumer product has been tainted,"

Again, I am nobody, just the soft quiet voice of one U.S. consumer.

I made sure to empty everything and the scratch x can also be absorbed through the skin on its own, which is why it has a caution on the label. I just tricked Walmart, they steal from us millions of dollars every year with their "would you like to donate", a few dollars is nothing

Are you not concerned that the product will end up on the shelf and another customer will have a disappointing experience?
        Or is that the expectation?

Also on the label, you should have found the Customer Care Hotline 1-800-347-5700.
Did you call and let them know about your experience and talk about alternative products, or a replacement for the one you attempted to use?
I have called Customer Care and had good answers leading to good results.

I will encourage you to join the very large majority of U.S. society and respect each other by helping keep our consumer and medical products properly labeled and safe for others. That is kindof why we have laws.

Walmart returning policy is very lax, so if the next customer has a negative experience, he can easily get his money back. I was kind of disappointed with the product, but still wanted to keep it for minor scratches, it may be a douchebag thing to do, but people do worse things in life. This is the first time I do something like this. I wouldn't do it with other products.

The next individual's experience will cost more than the few $ you (Edit: saved is replaced, I will withhold the stronger verbs for now) received from Walmart.

They may be working on a customer's vehicle. Then they experience one or two sections where the lotion does not come of the panel. Instead it leaves a greasy chemical film. If they are lucky it will only cost them an hour more to figure it out and use IPA to wipe the panels clean. They may or may not meet their schedule for the day, and may need to delay the customer.

Additionally, some of the supplies, like pad and towels may need to be discarded. Then there is the time to return the product.

Many of us were once young males.
I'm old, yet can still remember that being a "douchebag" is a choice.
You have the skills and intelligence to make better choices.
