Wash & QD

I recently bought Smooth Surface Clay Kit and Nxt Tech Wax 2.0 Paste.

I am giving my car a wash tomorrow, then claying and finishing it with the wax job. Now I have a question on how I maintain the finish going forward.

Say I clean the car every weekend:- should I wash the car with a car wash like - Nxt Generation Car Wash or Deep Crystal Wash and then finish it with UQD. Or I can just use a detailer like UQD or Next Generation Speed Detailer till the time I reach my next wax schedule.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Wash & QD

since the arrival of ultimate quick wax (last year), most would recommend using this after a wash (also acts as a wax booster). then in between washes, use uqd for light dusting.

Thanks for your inputs but my question is more from Quick Detailing perspective rather than Quick waxing.

Re: Wash & QD

both uqw and uqd are a spray and wipe product. but from your original post, yes, you can use a quick detailer of your choice till your next wax schedule. if you are referring to the (5 Step Paint Cycle) http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37320], either uqw/uqd will work.

Re: Wash & QD

So you would generally want your current detail to look like if possible:

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Cleaner/Wax
4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

If you are waiting a full week to wash (and assuming a daily driven car), then a wash would definately be more appropriate. Gold Glass soap is pretty top of the line for your needs. And then UQW after the wash.

Thanks folks for your assistance. Initially I was not sure if I would get responses on this forum but it looks like it is an active forum and we help each other.

I thought washing and claying would have taken care of cleaning part. But before my next waxing, I will get a cleaner wax and follow the steps above to see how much differences it makes.

This is interesting. So if I wash my car every weekend, the quick detaileres are not for me, I need to get quick waxes rather. To be able to use quick detailer, I should be cleaning my car daily.

Note: Yes, my car is a daily drive and there's no covered parking.

There are some things that I think need to be clarified for you. UQD is for a quick "dusting" when you dont have time to wash (i.e. in-between washes). It wont do much right after a wash, what you then need (if anything) is wax.

You can clay and use a cleaner-wax after each weekly wash, but that is probably overkill. Unless your car is someplace where it is subject to huge contamination, the clay and cleaner-wax is only needed every month or two. if you wash weekly (what you said), then a fast UQWax provides interim light-wax booster until your next monthly wax. If you dont mind spending a few more minutes, I would recommend liquid NXT-2.0 wax since it hardly takes more time than UQW. Cleaner-wax is OK for weekly use, since its cleaner is extremely mild, but liquid-NXT-2.0 is probably better for regular use.

Once you have a good was-clay-cleaner-glaze-wax base, a weekly wash with a good (mild) wash like Meguiars will not even need the wax (you can just wax monthly), or maybe NXT-2.0 every 2-3 weeks.

Do keep up the claybar plus cleaner-wax every few months, since good surface preparation is what gives you the great shine, not wax. And, cleaner-wax has the glaze/polish built in.

The Smooth Surface Clay kit, if that is what you got, comes with a sample of the cleaner/wax.

Kind of think of it like:
Washing gets the big stuff
Clay get the bonded on stuff
Cleaners get the dirt from the pores of the paint

The QD's are for light dust, which after a week, you are on to medium/heavy dirt. However, the UQD does leave a coating behind, so it could be used after a wash as well, or the UQW. Whichever you like.

Also, you still need a regular QD for claying. So having the regular QD and then UW would be good.

Re: Wash & QD

you might want to QD in case of those emergency situations where our friendly neighborhood birds deliver bombs... best to get those off asap

Re: Wash & QD

Thanks everyone for your inputs.

Given that I will be using Nxt 2.0 Wax Paste, which wash is more advisable - Nxt Generation Car Wash or Deep Crystal?

Is it really okay to do UQW after every wash? Because I read in another thread that it may result in over waxing that will face the finish of the paint. But ofcourse if the wash product is wax and wash, do I still ned UQW?
