Detailing Clay
2 Questions:
1. How much clay comes in the professional clay cans? In the consumer one you get 2 for the kit or 3 pieces for the replacement pack. I'm guessing that the pro clay doesn't come in pieces but if that's the case, how much use would I realistically get out of it or approx. how many of the consumer "pieces" could be made from the pro clay? 2. Is there any difference between the consumer clay and the mild pro clay? Is the mild clay mild enough to cause literally no marring just like the consumer stuff? Thanks. |

I normally cut the pro bar into 1/4's but you easily make them smaller for smaller vehicles.... Since you get twice as much with the Pro series, you could easily get more pieces. But I like using larger pieces as it is easier to hold.... Yes, there is a difference. The Consumer clay is the mildest with the professional mild clay being slightly more aggressive. The red aggressive clay is recommended for professionals only as it can/will leave marring that will need to be buffed out. The mild clay being slightly more aggressive than the Consumer clay usually does not leave marring though I have had it leave marring in some paints. Again, this was not a concern as I was buffing out the paint anyway. ![]() Tim

Re: Detailing Clay
When I started claying, which was quite awhile ago as it is what actually got me hooked on detailing, I only used consumer line. I only use the mild clay now. As Tim stated the red clay is aggressive and will leave marring. I haven't had any issues using the blue clay just use it like you would use consumer line and use plenty of lubricant.
You will be OK. To me the blue clay seems to last a little longer as far as doing multiple cars with the same clay. Andy M.

Re: Detailing Clay
The blue clay is the way to go in my opinion. Last a good long time.

Another vote for the blue clay, I use that one the most.

Re: Detailing Clay
I have quite the collection of clay and I can honestly say that I've never used a clay I didn't like. At the present I have 100g of Mother's clay, 400g Professional "mild" clay, 200g Professional "aggressive" clay. Go with the Mild clay, though the Mother's kit makes a good OTC alternative.

Re: Detailing Clay
Amazon has some pretty good prices for the Professional Detailing Clays. I bought one of each and got free shipping.
ADS has pictures of the various Meguiar's clays if you need a visual. |
