OK Folks, here's the moment you've all been waiting for (well, at least we've been waiting for )
This 1967 Pro Street Mustang boasts a 302 motor pushing out over 500 HP naturally aspirated. It's run an easy 12.5 1/4 mile and is probably capable of 11's. It won an MCA Gold award at the Mustang Club of America Nationals in Phoenix last fall. It recently appraised for just under 100K...it is a true piece of automotive art with an incredible level of detail. Steve, the owner, has owned this Mustang for 25 years and performed 99% of the restoration himself, including the paint! He built the motor too. He had a shop apply fresh paint a few years ago.
The paint is a gorgeous black with blue pearl - it reminds me of the "Black Sapphire Pearl" color found on some Lexus cars 2007 Lexus IS250. The paint is about 2 years old with plenty of clear coat to work with. There were a few flaws in the paint that revealed themselves after the paint had "dried out" that we were able to improve.
The overall finish was pretty decent but in some places had significant swirling and hologramming. AudionutMike and I were up to the challenge - we are InfiniteDetail
Before Pictures
The swirling on the rear quarter were typical for the car:
Hologramming:
Fender swirling:
After a few hours of testing, we found our best process to be:
- Wetsand problem areas with Unigrit 2000 or 3000
- M105 on purple foamed wool via Flex @ speed 6
- M205 on LC green pad @ speed 6, then speed 5 for final pass
- Nxt 1.0
- M26 Yellow Wax
Befores/Afters
Trunk Before
Trunk Wetsanded - at this point the owner of the Mustang nearly passed out
Trunk Finished - Owner's heart rate dropped below 200 bpm and color returned to his face
Driver side door had a slight "bubble" to it. Unfortunately I didn't get a good pic before I wetsanded:
Finished w/ M105:
After M105. The Sun was hiding behind clouds for most of the pics, but let me assure you it's a swirl-free finish. Enjoy!

Remember, these pictures are after M105 ONLY (no wax!) We hope to get final "sun" pictures this weekend.
A few notes
- M205 is amazing stuff! We noticed that you could actually feel where we had polished with it. The clarity is simply amazing.
-After waxing with Nxt, we decided to experiment with layering using M26 yellow wax. We applied the M26 on half of the hood scoop. When we removed the M26, the difference was visible and dramatic. The paint was much deeper and richer where the M26 had been applied.
Thanks to the owner, Steve, for providing dinner both nights we worked on his baby
And thanks to you for looking
