  • 2007 Ford Fusion - Merlot Metallic - Threepeat!

Audionut Mike and I pulled off the Hat-Trick with this beautiful AWD SE Fusion. This is Steve's 3rd car in as many weeks that he's had us detail.

This Fusion belongs to Steve's better half, Joni. It's a daily driver that has seen many automatic swirl installers (car washes). Our challenge was to remove the defects so that the beautiful Merlot Metallic paint could sparkle in the sun.

After washing and claying we found moderate swirling and some hologramming:

Nasty scratches on the rear bumper:

Interior was pretty clean (no kids) but needed freshening up. You can see the typical "gas pedal foot" stain along the transmission hump:

Had an ink stain on the driver's side door panel:

Wheels needed a good scrubbing and shining:

Mike carefully cleaned the cached on brake dust behind the wheel face and between the spokes:

After extensive testing, we found that the horizontal surfaces needed the Rotary + M105 on a maroon solo wool pad. This paint was very hard and some of the RIDS were deep and plentiful!

Further testing revealed that D151 on the PC/Green pad and Flex/Blue pad finshed up amazingly clear.

    Here's the after pics:

    Gas pedal shoe stain gone:

Mats powerwashed and extracted with LGM:

can you see the metal flake now?

And of course our hard-working helper I like this pic because of the rays of light bursting off of the paint

    This was our process:
-Wash w/ Gold Class car wash
-Treat wheels w/ All Wheel Cleaner
    -Clay w/ mild blue clay
-M105 via Rotary on Solo Maroon Wool Pad @ 1500 RPM
-D151 via PC on Green Pad @ speed 6
-D151 via Flex on Blue pad @ speed 5
-Wheels waxed w/ Meg's Cleaner Wax
-Mats treated with APC+ 10:1 and extracted w/ LGM (hot water)
-Interior cleaned with APC+ 10:1, treated w/ Gold Class Leather Conditioner and Natural Shine Vinyl and Rubber dressing
    -Stains treated with Folex
-Tires dressed with "grape juice" LOL Meg's high gloss endurance tire gel

Thanks to Steve and Joni for trusting us with their babies

    Thanks for looking

The pictures should be titled: Sleeping Beauty Awakes!
These pictures don't do the car justice. The car is 2 yrs. old, and when we bought it, we had no idea there was metallic flake in the paint. Honestly, it looks like a new paint job. This car is and has been meticulously maintained-car wash and interior detailing every week- and it's NEVER looked this good. No offense, but it just goes to show you what a car wash will do to a paint job.
Mike and Jeff spent a great deal of time on all of our cars. They worked tirelessly, getting all the details just right, and ensuring the car looks better than right of the assembly line new. They literally don't stop until it looks right. I know for a fact that they've seen slight imperfections which they thought they got the first time, and then went over it, not once but many times getting it to look the way they think it should look. This in and of itself is a true testimony to their dedication of customer service.
Just an side note: They do this after they've worked a full shift at their regular jobs, as well as working on the weekends. We should all be so dedicated.
I loved my car before; now I love it even more. Wait till the guys at Berge Ford and Ford Motor Company see these pictures.
Jeff and Mike; you guys are truly the best of the best!! And special thanks to Brittany and Brendan for their help.

Thanks for the kind words Steve and Joni The truth is we love what we do and consider it a privilege to be trusted with your prized possessions. We have been ruined by this forum - now that we *know* what perfection looks like and we *know* how to achieve it, we just can't settle for less.

Now, your challenge is to avoid the "automatic swirl installers" and use only the Supreme Shine towels that Steve ordered

Merlot is a really nice color when properly cared for (as pictured). The car looks fantastic, and there is definitely some depth to the paint now.

Not to be mean or rude, but I think if the Chrome Handles and Chrome B-Pillar moldings were removed it would look even better than it does!

I've always liked that color. With those flakes now showing there's no doubt that paint has been taken to the next level. Great job!
