After you wash or wipe down the car, the important point being that the car is absolutely clean, then you simply mist on some spray lubricant onto your clay bar and then onto the finish and rub the clay wafer back and forth in in circles, which ever your prefer or sometimes whichever works best for the pane/section of paint you're working on.
Oh yeah... first fold and knead your clay into a wafer or pancake before using.
After you've clayed one area, wipe off the residue using a clean, dry, soft microfiber or 100% cotton towel and move on to the next section.
Periodically turn your clay over and inspect it to see what you're removing and when it looks like there is a lot of gunk, then fold the clay bar over and re-knead it into a wafer and then continue claying.
I would add that it is a good idea to cut the clay into 3 or so pieces, because if you drop it, it needs thrown out. Dont want to drop all your clay at once.
Originally posted by Toalson Does use of claybar removes previous layer of sealant and/or wax? And is it necessary to use paint cleaner prior to sealant after claybar? Tks!
Welcom to MOL!
You will want to add wax/sealant after using a clay bar. It will remove wax, maybe not all of it.
It is not necessary to use a paint cleaner after claying but it will help in cleaning the surface better preparing the surface for a coat of wax/sealant.
