  • Understanding the Professional Line

For those of you hearing all the slang and Meguiar's numbers floating around, I hope this will help.

I wanted to post this in the Professional Line forum or the pro detailer's forum, but HTML is OFF in both of them.

      Excellent chart!

      Can I ask...
      What is the "Cut Meter"?

Also, would it be possible to include the approx. RPM speed for a DA or rotary polisher for each product that is applicable to?

I think this would be a good candidate for a sticky!!

I am not sure if it is the same name, but the "Cut-Meter" is scale that you see on the left side of the bottles that shows the aggressiveness of the produt.

Like a 3 out of 10, 4 out of 10, etc. It is a little subjective, more of a relative scale.

I thought that the new #2 Fine-Cut cleaner could now be applied by hand, DA, or rotary??

Yeah, I've heard that too and seen it on the forum, but the Meg's catalog said otherwise....I'll wait to hear from the authorities (Mike, Joe, 2hotford, etc.) and make the change if they say so.

As a personal comment, after consolidating all this information and sorting by number, the numbering rationale makes no more sense to me now than before. I see some clumps of related products, but it still seems somewhat of a hodgepodge to me. Does anyone know the full history/explanation?

well I hope they do agree since I have picked up a bottle of it and it does state those application methods on the back label...lol

Took out the notes column, added RPM's and suggested pads....tell me if you think this is better and I'll replace the 1st one with it

Yes, this is a VERY useful chart

Given the widly available consumer Cleaner/Wax (A12) and ColorX and DC1 Cleaner products, it would be nice if Meguiars could tell us their relative cut-numbers and recommended speeds so that they could also be added to the chart (maybe at the bottom). Same for the consumer BodyScrub product and/or any other consumer product with abrasive cutting.

Thanks again for the existing chart.

PS: it does raise one question - If I have a car with its finish in good condition and I dont want any cutting action, is there a profession paint cleaner? (or should I just use DC1 which has little or none but does have paint cleaning).

Yes, as per others comments, could Meguiars PLEASE make this thread (Post#1 with the chart) a sticky so it is easy to find.

I know it will by the single page I most widely refer to over time, and suspect it will be true for many others.
