  • Product To Use After Detailing?

    Hi all,

After doing the Mequiars 5 Step Detailing process, whats the best way to keep up on the cars cleaness/shine on the outside? Just use the Quick Detailer, until the car shows signs that its time for another wax? Reason i ask is because its supposed to Snow slightly tomorrow, and i spent 10hrs this weekend detailing my car

    i feel your pain
snow falls and then it melts you can use QD to maintain the look of your car but after a while it will need a wash

I agree with this and have QDed after a rain or snow with great results.

But, speaking totally for myself here. As a general rule of thumb I try not to QD after my finish has gotten wet. My "feel" is that the wetness "may" have caused some of the dust to adhere to the paint a little moreso than if it had remained dry. So I try to go for a wash after a rain, snow or even a heavy dew. I don't know for a fact that this is an actual fact but it kind of makes sense to me in my feeble little brain.

I would think even a decent rise with a garden hose would siffice depending on the severity of stuff on the finish.

Again, I want to emphasize that I "try" to adhere to this. There are times that I deviate from this for lack of time and or energy.

        Hey,

I would suggest re-washing your car after rain or snow. A QD will work well for light dust. However, as Jeff mentioned, once dust has been mixed with water, it forms more of a heavy dust. In some cases, that may increase your chance of introducing marring into the finish. Therefore, to protect that 10 hours of work, I would suggest that you re-wash using the 2 bucket method, to protect your hard work.

I find that rather than getting out the hose, it is much easier to use QEW in an instance like this. Even though it's not a Meguiar's product, it works well when a QD just isn't enough.

            Hi,

Its just supposed to be a few snow flurries and same too for all this weekend. After the snow has dried, im going to see how bad the car looks. Maybe i can get away with just using the QD or if its looks real bad, ill use the 2 bucket wash process and do each panel in my garage.
A question though, wont washing the car remove the wax anyhow? And what would be the best drying towels to use in this instance?

I lived in Waukegan for a while and will tell you this. in your area I would go for a wash after snow. That would area is so indutrialized that the air pollution you will have that gets mixed up with the water from the snow on your car isn't something you want to mess with. Wash that puppy.

if you use a Ph balanced car wash soap, the answer is no. Depending on the LSP you used, if you wanted to add a little more "pop", then you could use a booster wax.
