  • NXT, Gold Class, Deep Crystal or Pro?!?!?

    Hi Gents,

I'm totally confused about the pecking order of all of the various Meguiars product ranges. Essentially, I'm looking for the best possible polish and wax combination to provide the ultimate super-wet look, regardless of the price or work required.

From what I can see, the profressional line Show Car Glaze is the best polish (correct me if I'm wrong), but which wax should I be following it up with - NXT?, Gold Class?, High Tech Yellow?

I was thinking of doing a double application of polish followed up by a single waxing to kick off with, then a single polish and single waxing every 4th week to maintain the look - does this sound like a workable plan?

What's the story on applying polish over the top of existing wax?

    Please Help!

I would say use #21 after the #7. It's pretty much personal preference as to what wax you wanna use. You can't go wrong w/ using any of those that you listed as long as you know how to use them. I'd post what color car it is you're going to detail just as some may prefer one wax over another.
The story on applying a pure polish on top of an existing wax is that the polish will only be present till you wash your car again or if it rains. That's why most people apply the polish first, and then wax, so that the polished look will last as long as the wax.
And if you don't already know, you should definately use detailing clay to make the finish shinier and smooth as glass

I would agree with #7 then #21 Synthetic Sealant.

I think you will find 1 coat of polish, and 2 coats of wax is better though.

You dont need to use ScratchX every time. You can swith to a milder/cheaper/easier to use product like the Deep Crystal #1 cleaner when swirls are gone.

Gold Class is a great wax, no worries there, esp for looking good on black.

I do think #21 will last longer if you are parked outside or out in the weather more.

Sort of a trade off, just have to pick one.

Thanks for the tips guys! The car in question is mica black (slightly metallic) and has only just been resprayed, so no imperfections (yet!).

The car is located in Thailand, so it's constantly subjected to 85-120F temperatures, and while it is parked undercover there's no avoiding pollution fallout and the occaisional gecko (lizard) **** getting onto the finish.

It seems the general consensus so far is to use #7 show car glaze, then #21 synthetic sealant, which I assume should be followed up by a wax as the sacrificial layer right? I already have some liquid NXT, so I guess that should do the trick - does this all sound right given the color and environment?

Any ideas on what my maintenance plan should be? Note that it doesn't matter what work is required - all that matters is that the car is in show condition all the time.

Sorry for all the questions, it's just that Meguiars pro products are next to impossible to get here - there's three local "Meguiars" shops (they sell nothing but Meguiars, mind you at 5x the USA MSRP) but they don't sell any of the pro range at all!

So basically I'll have to order it all from the USA and I don't want to miss something out..

Many thanks for the help, much appreciated!

Meguiars uses the terms wax and sealant interchangeably. Some companies dont, but that is based on their own products.

2 coats of #21 will last a while, and stay looking good for a while.

I would probably just finish of the Nxt bottle, 2 coats at a time, then start using the #21.

Has it been 3 months since the re-spray? You dont want to put wax on fresh paint. Better to keep it cleaned/polished till after the 3 months.

You are certainly in a very different environment, but trying for a wash every week or so, followed by a QD/Spray wax is a great waay to keep up the looks.

Then do your full process, clay as needed, clean/polish/wax every month, or other month. You will probably be claying often.

I guess you would be looking to order #7, #21, maybe a tub of the professional mild clay, and get at least 1 Grit Guard for your rinse bucket. And of course any other bits and pieces... dressings, etc.

Thanks for all the tips guys!

I've got a friend heading over to the states (well, Hawaii) next month, so will finally have a means to get some of the Meguiars Pro products back here to Thailand.

The problem is that the #21 Synthetic sealant is only available in the 64oz size, so it's just too big to carry in his return luggage. So I need to work out a substitute. Many moons ago (with a different car, and back in Western weather) I used to use #7 followed by #26 and the results were great..

I have been using NXT over the past few months (on the new OEM paint, prior to the respray) but it only took a few days for the paint to feel "dry" again - it still looked good (well, for orange peeled OEM paint that is), but just didn't feel "wet" anymore. Following up with Final Inspection after washing restored the feel for a day or two only. Is that normal?

Note that I'm using a dual action polisher for application and a Meguiars microfibers for hand wipe down.

The way I see it, the possible (16oz) substitutes are:

                #26 High-tech yellow
                #20 Polymer Sealant
                Deep Crystal Step 3
                Gold Class Liquid Wax

Any ideas on which of these is going to cope with the intense heat and fallout here in Thailand the best?
