  • When to Wash Wheels/Tires?

I was looking around at EagleOne.com and was reading some washing tips. They say to wash the tires before you wash the paint. I am a noob at car detailing, but I thought wheels/tires were the last thing to be washed. When is the right time to wash the wheels/tires?

Wheels and tires first, so that anything that splashed onto the paint from washing them can get washed off afterward.

I agree with the wheels and tires first philosophy, but that assumes you are NOT washing with the same water and sponge/mitt/brush that you will use to wash the rest of the car after.

I spray my tires and wheel wells with APC cut 4:1 and my wheels with the Meg's Multi-Piece Wheel Cleaner, then hit the tires with a tire brush, the wheel wells with a toilet brush I picked up at the grocery store, and the wheels with, you guessed it, a wheel brush! Everything gets a good rinse and then I move on to the rest of the car. My wash bucket and wool mitt never even come into play here.

A way that a wash mitt would to be used is if you have an extra wash mitt and are into applying wax or a metal poylsh er sumthin to keep them looking good, you should use a car wash solution like NXT and the wash mitt to clean your rims. Hot rims, like other degreasers, will remove wax and polyshes.
