  • Worse Wash Ever

    Hi,

A few days ago, my sister washed her car. It was a futile attempt with her washing her car.

    Things I noticed:
    1. She used a lot of water and I mean a lot. IT appears she attempted to pressure wash her car with a garden hose on jet stream. What a wate of time and effort.

    2. She opened a gallon of my soap and used about 16 oz of it in a 1 galon wash container. I am asuming that is enough to make 16 buckets. I usually use 1 oz per 1 galon and use about 4 buckets per car changing it 3 more times as I wash a car.

    3. She used my wash mitt and put it on the ground. She told me it is the greatest wash mitt she has ever used. I gave it to her as a gift becuase it is now full of dirt.

    4. When she was done, there was bird droppings and bug spots on top and on the hood. The lower pannels next to the tires had tar and were still dirty.

    5. She wanted to wax and use my quik wax. I figured why not. Later she comes in complaining that it is streaking. I explained that it doesn't streak if you apply it to a clean car and wipe it off compltely. I have used it dozens of times without problem. She asked how to remove the streaks and I pointed to just wiping them off with the 100% terry towel. When I demonstrated, I was discusted when the white towel became miscollored from the dirt still on teh car.

    6. She wanted to clean the tires, so I said use the Hot Rims All Wheel. She did and said the product didn't work. It old her you have to scrub a little bit. I also said she should have done this before washing/drying the car. She cleaned all wheels and they turned out terrible. I actually had to tell her to rinse the wheels! Then I cleaned her driver side front wheel with the wheel cleaner and demonstrated it works easily. With her 4 month old car, her wheels looked extremely bad, but cleaned extremely easily. it took less than 2 minutes to clean her wheel! She now has one clean wheel and 4 dirty ones.

I was kind of disgusted with the job she did.

Dude, c'mon, this is your sister and her 4 monhth old car. Be a good brother and help her out a little. At least she's actually trying to do something positive here and not just run it through the automatic wash.

It does appear to me that she had a really poor teacher. Nice going. Instead of showing her how to do it properly you come here and tell us what a bad brother you are. I'm disgusted with the job you did or rather didn't do.

I'm going to wash somebodies car before I let them use my car washing tools. I wouldn't let my sister, Mom or brother wash their car like that if I were standing around. I would give them the do's and don'ts of washing a car correctly. My g/f has got in the habit of washing her car right each time. The only thing I have to help her on is the waxing. I would give your sis a good schooling on proper car washing and waxing. It will save your producst from going to waste and give her something that she will use for a long time.

(Jbirk) Introduce her to Meguiar's Online so she can learn the correct way to Auto Detailing before she picks up dish washing soap, sponges or scrubing pads to use on her car. Also hide all your detail supplies before you have to buy all new detail supplies because Sis wasted or distoryed your stuff. Also in defence of (Jbrik) It's not our job to show Sis how to do things she has a mouth she can ask for help I learened to do so many things (auto detailing, body work, auto repairs ETC!!!ETC!!!ETC!!!)by watching, reading & trying it my self because my Father was working all the time so I had nobody to teach me.

if i was by side with someone that i knew or didn't know for that matter, washing and drying their car.... i would guide them and show them the proper technique of car washing & drying. i couldn't bare to see someone in front of me do a poor job, especially if i could help it....

I give your sis props for trying. I surely did a poor job when I first started cleaning my first truck. But with time I have gotten a lot better. And I'm sure I'll be better with more time. I have two brothers whose cars look like McDonalds garbage cans, so feel lucky that you can give us a bad wash story!

There is nothing I can do. I told her to rinse off the Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner, but she didn't want too. I suggested she clean her windows. She didn't want too. I suggested she was off the bugs and bird droppings with the wash mitt by rubbing them hwen washing, she didn't want to put that much passion into the wash.

I could teach her, and she is much more than smart enough to learn; however, she is not motivated at all. She is not trying to do something nice for her car.

The only reason she washed her car is becuase she is required to by her work. Apparently, she deals with customers and has to drive out to various businesses to cordinate business. Regardless, she is required to have an acceptable looking car. If it gets really bad, she must get it washed.

She only washed it to save $15. She thinks it is a joke. She left the All Wheel cleaner on and even drove away. When she came back an hour later, I rinsed it off. Apparently, it caused no damage, so it must be a very safe wheel cleaner. It is a good thing I didn't tell her to use the Instant Acid Based cleaner!

I would be happy to teach her and I have had a success story teaching someone to Quik Detail and use Scratch X to remove darkening from contamination. The problem is that she does not listen to anyone about anything ever even if you are telling her somethign that would help. I learned this about her personality many years ago. For these reasons, I just let her do her thing and keep away to avoid conflict.

I suggested Endurance High Gloss a a tire dressing, but the conversation went something like this:
Me: "You have commented how nice my tires look. If you would like yours to look that way, I will help you to apply Endurance Tire Dressing"
Her: "Shut up. I don't have time to apply that. You wash your car and I will wash mine."

Me *Silence and Gives extra Space*

I don't complain about the product usage because it is much less of a hastle to buy more product and less of a conflict. I actually own about 40 different products and use them on 3 different cars. I am not a detailer, but I do belive in doing any job right, so I properly research everything before doing it, and I always get carried away.

For some reason, I never get tired of seeing a "new car finish" also, I always apply plenty of "passion" to everything I do even stuff not car related. Take for instance, making a disk image of a computer for deployment, setting up a new server.... I always go the extra mile with everything. It gets noticed.

As far as me being a teacher. I will help anybody with anything if they want to listen. If they do not want to listen, I will just back off and leave them alone. I do not force my thoughts, opinions, or knowledge on anyone.

Good job trying. Some people are hard to understand. My brothers car needs a new muffler, but he is to lazy to fix it or get it fixed. He has been driving around for two months with a annoying hiss sound and he has warranty to get the muffler free. I even have a auto lift in the shop they come over and use.

It is sad to hear about a nice car being taken for granted.

this is just me, but if you're willing to teach her, a good teacher can teach anyone anything.

how do i know. because i'm a teacher. and i've had some problem kids that other teachers have said GOODLUCK SIR with that one, but if you're motivated (the teacher) then you'll find a way to motivate the student and teach them.

i have a little sister and i must admit i'm disgusted that you would come on here and just bash her like that. i mean if i saw my sister doing it totally wrong that it'd ruin her car or make it look bad, i'd stop her and show her the right way and explain the reasons why etc...

students learn from great teachers because the teachers find a way to teach them. each student learns differently and thinks differently being able to adapt to that is what teaching is all about.

                          GOODLUCK!!!!

hopefully she'll turn into a success story mate....

                          cheers
