  • Deep Crystal Step 2

    Hi
I am going to apply some "Deep Crystal Step 2" tonight. I have already clayed and polished with Sonus SFX-2 to remove/reduce swirls - some very light micromarring is left though (can barely be seen).

Will Deep Crystal Step 2 provide a nice filler for what is left before I apply wax (Collinite 476S)???

Also - in Australia we have a limited range of Megs products - all I can really get hold of for swirls is #9 and I don't really find it that effective compared to Sonus SFX-2. Is there anything else in the Australian line up that would be good to try?

OK - I just had a quick look again and it seems #80 or #2 (if something stronger is required) might be an option. Do either of these have fillers? Probably #80 sounds like a good all rounder??

and Deep Crystal Step 2 has no abrasives unlike Megs #2 - confusing as they have a similar name!

Are you working by machine polisher?

The 80-series is very good with machines, and #80 is probably the most commonly used one. It is a bit stronger then the #9 as well.

It can be used by hand as well, but you'll get the best swirl removal by machine of course.

And here we have the filler question yet again as a result of what the misinformed post on other forums. You're using Sonus products sold by Autopia, is this where the filler mis-information came from?

        Please read this. Thank you.

Question about #80 - Does it contain heavy fillers?

Here's a portion from the above link, please read the entire thread.

How do you define the word, fillers ?

Do a search using the word fillers and select Search Titles Only in the search preference option.

The word, fillers is a word used by the uniformed on other forums. Don't let yourself get trapped into that mindset. Remember there's lot of self-proclaimed guru's out there that simply copy and paste what they read and in essence act like parrots repeating information they never generated. The problem with this is that some of the information is good, while some of it is bad.

So the Sonus SFX-2 left micro-marring in your car's finish?

            Fillers & SFX-2

Did the SFX-2 leave micromarring? Nope. I initially tried Megs #9 by machine but it didn't have any effect on the light swirls. So the next logical step up in my arsenal was SFX-2 - which did a great job of getting the swirls out.

I'm not one to polish and polish until all swirls are gone however (not worth thinning the paint) so now I want to apply a glaze to "fill" what I missed (couldn't be bothered removing) before I wax over the top. That's why I am putting the Megs "Step 2" on there.

            The reason I was asking about the Megs #80 is that it seems like a good alternative that I can get locally as a replacement for the SFX-2;

If it has some "fillers" as opposed to the SFX-2 then great as I am never trying to completely eliminate ALL swirls...

If you only want to fill the swirls then you could try #5 or #7. but if i was you i would go for #82, IMO it fills swirls better than #9. I think that #80 is more for removing swirls and #82 can remove very light swirls and fill the rest of them in. with that said #80 is on of my favorite products and it should be able to remove your micromarring.

I've found that DC2 does a pretty good job hiding swirls. Not perfect. Much better to start with DC1 to get rid of a lot of them, and then DC2.
