Thee will come a point where you will have enough wax on the pad that it will become easier and easier to apply and spread out a uniform layer of wax. At first with a new, dry pad it won't be quite as easy, but once you start to get the pad wet with wax it will start working really well.

I have one that has one side showing the sponge. I have not had the time to stitch it back. Any particular way to stitch it back so that it won't undo again?
I've washed my ECA once so far. Plan on washing them every week. We'll see how they keep up. So far, so good.
And Mike is right about a better coat of wax being applied after some wax gets into it. I did my hood first after I washed my ECA the night before, and it didn't do so well. By the time I got to the 2nd fender, it was B-U-T full!
I think "loading" it up will be a good way to go next time around, or starting at a body panel not so high profile as a the hood. . .
