Quik&NXT detailers how long do they protect?

I am new to detailers and was wondering how long they offer protection. I know they are not "wax like" protectors, but since I find the finish is even smoother after using them, I guess it is harder for surface contaminates to stick. If that is true, then I guess in a way they do protect.

Does a quick detailer survive washing the car with a Meguiar's soap? Do they survive rain?

While I do think my finish still remains smoother after a rain when I have used a quick detailer, I wouldnt look at it as any sort of protection.
