  • Removing and Polishing

    Hey All,

any polishes that you can remove with a bonnet or no.

geesh my arm really hurts removing #7 by hand etc...

especially after you remove M80 by hand.

    cheers

You can remove any polish with a PC+bonnet, only problem I see is unless you have 2 PC's you will have to remove the polishing pad and replace it with a bonnet after every every panel you work on.

I applied and removed #7 by hand to my PT Cruiser and found it to be really easy. Give this a try:

        1. apply a small amount of #7 to a foam applicator and work it into a typical 2' x 2' area, using only moderate pressure
        2. as soon as you feel the applicator start to "drag" against the finish (#7 is drying at this point) stop working it in and....
        3. grab a MF towel and give the area an initial wipe. don't try to remove all the #7 at this point, just give the area a first, firm wipe
        4. now gently buff the area until the product is fully removed
        5. repeat on the next section

I was taught this method at a Wednesday Night Open Garage and found it to be simple and effective for applying #7.

Yeah, you can use #7 (and #5/#81/Deep Crystal #2) by machine just as you can use #3 by hand, just watch for loading/caking of your pad. None of these pure polishes is very particular as to application method in my experience.

If you want to remove polish by machine, watch that you don't let it completely flash off/dry while you're switching to the removal system. And you'd better have a zillion bonnets as they load up pretty fast. I've pretty much given up on doing this by machine, despite having a pair of PCs/Cyclos and a lot of bonnets...

Sometimes when #80 is tough to buff off it's because it was worked too long and/or allowed to dry.

Yes, I understood that you yourself did it by hand, but my post was regarding the difficulty you had in removing it. I've found the method I described makes removal by hand extremely easy and your arms won't feel like they want to fall off when you're done. I've never tried #7 by machine as it seems to be such a finesse product that I'd rather hand apply remove. I am not a glutton for punishment though, so technique is everything!

If allowed to fully dry it will be very hard to remove, even if by machine. This is true of all Meguiar's polishes, as you yourself have discovered with #80 - you NEVER let a Meguiar's polish dry on the car. Never. Wax/sealant, yes. Polish, no.

i was just asking general question.

sometimes the internet is not good at getting that across.

                  sorry mate.

the only thing I use the bonnet on the PC for is to remove my wax (LSP)...I remove #80 by hand all the time...same goes for #83..
