  • Removing wax/polish buildup?

    Hi everyone

I was detailing my car and noticed that i have some #80 and #83 build up left on the edges of my roof by the weatherstipping. I have already done a search and have used goo gone/scratch x/vinegar to try to remove the build up but it seems like nothing works. im about to try the peanut better technique but i dont think that will work.

does anyone know of any other tricks i can use? the polish was left on about 3 weeks from when i detailed it. im kicking myself for not noticing it earlier.

TIA for all your guys help.

here are pics of the buildup

If the PB doesn't work then give Meguiar's #39 a shot. Works great for me, even on older "baked on" residue.

Please note, the "baked on" residue was NOT on one of my personal cars!!

#39 works good, but you do need to follow it up with some protectant. right?
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Yes you should use #40 (or some other trim detailer) after #39 to protect (see this thread and this one). I can't find the exact post that recommended it to me, but it is out there somewhere.

          residue

try using a toothbrush or cut off paint brush as you wash the car
          i think it is easier
          good luck

Sometimes a fingernail drawn across the trim will work, also sometims you can move the trim component away from the paint just a smidge and get a couple fibers of a microfiber cloth in the right area to remove the dried products.

            Now where's that tape?

              Re: Removing wax/polish buildup?

I had this problem once, so I raided my wifes kitchen spatula. It is a small one that is tapered on one edge, and stiff enough to go down in the cracks, and edges along the trunk & hood area. It is rubber so also worked good in curved areas. Just wrapped the micro fiber around it & bling the excess was gone. I agree with the other posts #39 for the stuff on the trim. I found that taping is worth the effert & time it takes to do it.
              Good Luck with it, Fox
