Which paint cleaner do you prefer? Chemical or abrasive? I have DC1, and MPPC. I'm pretty sure DC1 is a chemical cleaner, I think MPPC is abrasive, or maybe both, not sure. I do have a few light swrils, should I just use a good combo like 80? What is your opinion?
    Thanks for your help.

      Re: Paint Cleaners

Well here is my opinion.... as for the abrasive/non-abrasive I will let someone else tackle that one.

I have found #80 to be a great 'go to' cleaner polish. I use it on just about every detail. I have never needed anything more than #80, all the vehicles I have detailed on the side have been fairly well cared for and #80 can handle them. Now, I have used DC#1 and really do like it but I seem to always reach for #80 for its swirl/fine scratch removal and polishing ability all in one - it just works!

Thanks for the reply. I love #80 and use it alot. I sometimes wonder if every once in awhile it might be better to use a seperate cleaner and polish? Just wondering.
        Thanks again

Both DC1, MPPC and ScratchX use a combination of chemical cleaners and diminishing abrasives.

As for which product to use when, Meguiar's always teaches the philosophy of,

"Use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

Couple that with your personal preference and experience and you should be able to choose the paint cleaner that suits your needs best.

I don't see a real need to, especially when #80 is as good as it is. It's also light enough on the abrasives that you can use it quite a bit without worrying about eating up the clear. Heck, if your technique is bad (like mine was at first) it won't accomplish much anyway, so it can't be that harsh!

You do have the right idea, that seperate products are usualy better than all-in-one products. But #80 is hard to beat.

That said, some colors/cars respond well to #80 followed by #7, in which case you can think of #80 as a cleaning only step. Usualy on black of course.

#82 also can improve the look on some cars, but it is a very mild cleaner, mostly polishing oils probably.
