  • Going on a shopping spree

Alright I just discovered a site from here called auto detailing solutions. Anyone know how fast they ship?

Also what products do you guys recommend to me? Im thinking of some sort of dressing. Im deff ordering pads. I want to get into the pro line. I hear #80 is good. What others should I use for a full detail job? Synthetic or polymer sealant? Hi-tech yellow wax?

Thier shipping is pretty fast. If you order in the beginning of the week you should get your order by the weekend.

    #80 is a good choice.
    I like #21 sealant.
Some water magnets would be a good purchase as well.
Get some Hi tech Applicator pads as well.
#39 or #40 for vinyl and plastics.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

There is also the question of how are you working, by PC, hand? I take it you mean PC pads?

This has been my experience as well, but keep in mind Shawn and I are both in SoCal, ADS is in Arizona. Your mileage may vary, but my last order was placed on a Sunday evening and I received the shipment on Wednesday using plain ol' UPS Ground. I'd be willing to bet if you did the same (order on Sunday PM/Monday AM) it would reach Iowa before the next weekend.

I like all of the above as well. Get yourself a gallon of APC or APC Plus as well; many uses on the car and around the house too. Great stuff.

Alrite thanks for the suggestions guys. Im really starting to get interested into detailing. Hoping to make a small profit to help pay for everything. I already got two of my cousins lined up for detailing jobs after they saw my horrible job on my dads car. They thought it was really good so Im guessing theirs will be even better.

I'm just a beginner when it comes to detailing, but here's my suggestions. If you're working with a PC I would get some #80 and some #83 (I didn't get the #83 and ended up wishing I had). I would get some #21 to top the #80. It's also nice to have some ScratchX handy for those scratches you can't get at with the PC. If you get the #80 and #83, you should also have an W8006 pad for each, then a W9006 pad for applying the #21 if you get that. I also got the Smooth Surface Clay kit, it worked real well for me. These are my suggestions from my limited experience.

Was basically thinking the same exact thing lol. I may just stick to the DC system at least until the winter is over. I still want to get some more practice in before spending real good money.

You may want to consider ordering a backing plate if you are getting pads. I am finding that the backing plate that came with my PC is rather large and the edges kind of eat into the foam part of the pad instead of being contained within the velcro attachment part. This is not the case with pads I have from other manufacturers where the velcro goes all the way to the edge of the pad. Has anyone else experienced this? I am in the process of ordering a backing plate so I don't wreck my Megs pads. I just ordered a bunch of goodies from ADS - 80, 21, hyper dressing, pads, a wheel brush and I got it in two days.

It’s pretty common since the Porter-Cable plate that comes with the 7336 version of the PC is designed for 6” sanding disks. The plate overhangs the edge of the Velcro and digs into the foam.

When using (non-Meg’s) pads with Velcro that goes all the way to the edge there’s some risk of dragging that foam/glue/Velcro/ edge on the paint if you’re working through a deep body contour or tilting the PC. That would gouge the paint pretty bad so you always want to be sure you’re keeping the pad flat to the finish.

The Meguiar’s 5” plate obviously works with the Meguiar’s pads. Lake Country and others also make 5” plates that will work.

Can't speak about that site, but I've had great luck with Autogeek.com and DetailCity.com, fast shipping and easy to use web site.

ADS has excellent delivery times, and they send tracking numbers also. I ordered my stuff on a Thursday afternoon, and had it on Tuesday of the following week. If I remember correctly shipping is kinda high, but even with that, I save time and money over ordering and waiting for my products through my local auto body supply house. I will purchase all my products from meguiars.com or ADS for the rest of my detailing life.

I would say ADS's shipping are pretty fair. The highest their shipping goes is $16.95, and they judge the shipping cost by the total price of your order. When I ordered my PC kit and a bunch of other things, I had over forty pounds of package. It only cost $16.95 to ship all of it. I get my stuff in about three to four days depending if the weekend is involved. I just ordered some more stuff last Thursday night and it shipped last Friday. I will get it today (10-25-06)

I agree with Rascal, ADS's shipping costs are well in line with other detailing sites. If your ordering just a $5.00 item and the shipping is the base cost of $9.95 then yes it will be high, however, just place a larger order and the cost of shipping per item drops dramatically.
Generally, if your order is placed before 3 pm ADS time, then it will go out that same day on UPS ground. From that point on, only the Big Brown can control what day it arrives at your place.

Yea I already placed a somewhat big order. Ordered mostly pads and a couple of claybar kits because with shipping and the number of items I bought, it was cheaper than getting it from the store. In store around here, lowest Ive seen is $24.95 plus tax.
