Paint on plastic?

A girl I know just sent me an email asking me what the best way to remove some paint from the plastic on the side of her Grand Cherokee.. Would it just wash off? Ive never tried to remove paint from plastic like that? she said she thought it was just from the Highway crew painting new lines on the road..

Without any pictures to help, the only thing I can say is try some of Meguiar's plastic cleaner.

Are we talking about painted plastic, like the same color of paint as on the car only on a plastic component of the car?

Or are we talking about some type of pebble textured plastic like rubber or plastic trim?

If it's the second component you might want to try Goo Gone, if it's the first then you can try claying and a paint cleaner like ScratchX.

Just so you know, the paint used for highway's is supposed to stick really well to the road and it's gong to stick really well to anything else it gets on. Have you ever wondered how the lines painted on the road are able to hold up so well with all those tires driving over it all day and all night? They do their homework when they make a paint for the roads.

No, its not painted plastic.

I have no pics of her jeep and the paint. she lives over an hour away..

At least the plastic portion is easier (less delicate) to work with than a painted body panel. Washing that area with a sponge or even brillo pad (non-metal) like you scrub pots with may work or you could perhaps try a plastic razor blade if it's really stuck on there. That paint dries quickly so it has probably adhered to the trim fairly well. For the wheelwells, I'd just clean those really well with a degreaser, let it dry really well, and hit that area with some black spray paint. Just my 2 cents.

I would try some prepsol, but it might make the plastic fade.

Guys.. This is a Highschool girl.. She doesnt know what prepsol is.. lol Do not believe she can use a razor blade either. I was just needing some tips to give her. Im not the one that going to be working on it.. She is..

The green Grand in those pics if ours. Ive never had troubles getting paint off of the cladding with just washing it. I told her to do that and rub the areas really hard with just a sponge and get back to me..

Any other SIMPLE ideas I could give her?

haha, I didnt mean anything bad toward highschool people. Im only a sophomore in college..

Edit: just so i do not have to start another thread.. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the MEgs backing plates and 6.5in pads for the PC. i cannot find them on their website?

:P call the 1-800 number and ask them. I think they have some sort of deal that you get 3 pads and a backing plate

she sent me some pics.. I believe a pressure washer would remove the stuff? Ive also told her paint thinner may bring it off?

No, it's Graphite Pearl. Satin Silver would have been my second choice but I wanted a grey interior. I bought mine the month it was made (June 2005) and already have over 25,000 miles on my baby!

I think that Jeep has pebbled textured plastic.

you could try giving her a prepsol wipe by duplicolour. I would try to test it on a unnoticable aread first though.
