  • Some help pls

Hi i have been reading alot about detailing and i am planning on starting on my new ride a 2mth old lancer

I can only seem to find the following in my area

    Clay Bar Kit
    Colour X
    Scratch X
    #5 New Car Glaze
    #7 Show Car Glaze
    #20 Polymer Sealant
    NXT wax

    I am planning on doing
    Wash
    Clay Bar
    Color X
    #20
    NXT Paste wax

Is the color X useless in this set up cause #20 already has some polish? There are some fine scratches around the car which i intend to use scratch X to remove. Already have that product and clay bar kit need to get the rest.

Am i getting the steps right? Any advise?

The ColorX is not useless at all here. In fact, it will do a much better job as it has far greater cleaning properties than #20. You plan sounds very good actually, and if you take your time and really do it with care you should end up with outstanding results.

      Hi Issac,

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

ColorX is a strong cleaner/wax, because it has a lot of cleaning ability, some people use it as a paint cleaner like they would use ScratchX, in your case you don't need it.

From you're description, here's an outline to follow with the product you have or that are available to you,

      Wash
      Clay
ScratchX for the scratched areas - Be sure to read the how-to article for this
      Wax

Both the M20 and the NXT Tech Wax Paste are "Paint Protectants", so technically you realy only need to choose and apply one. M20 has some mild cleaning ability as does NXT, so if you want to apply both, apply the M20 first and then the NXT.

Hmmmmm.........it seems Mr. Phillips and I have a disagreement of sorts here! While we agree on the use for, and ability of, ColorX, we differ on whether or not you need it on a two month old car. I submit now that only you can make that determination! You stated that you'll be addressing specific fine scratches with ScratchX, but if your car has overall very light swirling or other defects then the ColorX may well be called for. Without seeing any pictures, I'd say only you can judge that for sure.

Otherwise I totally and completely defer to Mike's recommendations!!!

            Thanks for all your inputs

Just to clearify somethings. I also want to highten the clearity and gloss of the car. Does Colour X help in making the clear coat smoother thereby given of better reflection? Or is the cleaning/polishing in #20 able to do that for me?

If NXT has cleaning agents wont it effect the #20 under it?

This forum doesnt seem to have a edit function so adding another question that crossed my mind.

Between #20 and Waxing do i have to wait for a curing time for #20 or can i go with waxing right after i am done buffing of #20?
