  • So you are going to the car show. What do you bring?

So you are taking your car to the car show. What do you bring? Lets just say you have a small duffle bag.

You get to fill that bag with any detailing products you want to prep your car once you are there. What kind of detailing products would want in your bag to take with you to the car show? There is a limit you what you can fit in the 17" x 10" x 9" bag.

Also the car show may be a thousand miles away and you have to drive your show car there. (No garage queens!) You may or may not have the time and or availability to wash your car when you get there! So how would you prep it before you left?
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Wash and prep before leaving just like each and every saturday....
    Then the bag with:
    Clay bar
    #34
    NXT spray wax w/ECA
    NXT Glass Cleaner
    Natural Shine w/applicator
    2-3 Supreme Shine MF's
    Endurance High Gloss w/applicator
    NXT Metal polish w/applicator

Don't take too much with you.... you might find no end before the show is over.

Re: So you are going to the car show. What do you bring?

If the drive is several hundred miles away I would suggest a car bra for the driver there and back. The only times I've ever used a bra on my car was for this purpose, and for a track day at Buttonwillow. It has never been on my car for more than 48 hours straight, and probably less than 60 hours total.

To veedub Mike's list I would add your quick detailer of choice, Quik Interior Detailer and probably a dozen more microfiber towels.

So, when and where is this show?

Some Supreme Shine MF towels, Marine version, which are larger.
        NXT Speed Detailer
        NXT Tech Wax Paste
        NXT Glass Cleaner
        NXT Insane Shine Tire Spray
        That should do it!

For the drive painters tape, this works great and removes easily. Here is how I drove my car out to SEMA in 06. I would pack MF, clay bar, QD, window cleaner, and interior wipes, if there's time #7, and tire shine.

                Blue painter's tape FTW!

When I go to shows, I tend to bring a lot of supplies with me, because I never know what I will need to use, and sometimes I like to help others out. I make sure to definitely have several things of Quik Detailer, several cans of tire foam, metal polish, glass cleaner, interior protectant, lint brush, more towels than i'll ever know how to use, bottles of water (I clean the tire treads with this)... that's my basics that I actually bring into the show.

When I drove 2000 miles for NOPI this past spring I was lucky enough to be able to crash my stepbrother's house and take over his driveway to completely detail my car with everything imaginable. In other situations, personally I'd hunt for a self serve car wash where at least you can use the water and hand wash your car if you had to. Blue tape will definitely help keep the bugs and other debris to a minimum.

Heh, if you absolutely had to you could handwash your car with a couple of buckets and a lot of trips back inside to your hotel room. This is actually how I hand wash my car at home ,as I live in an apartment with no hose access. I bring out two buckets, one soap, one rinse, and about 5 containers filled with water for rinsing the car. Pain in the butt, but it gets the job done and gives my neighbors a reason to laugh.

My car show kit is nearly done. I showed a few people over at ShowCarDetailing the kit and it went over well. I will take some pictures and post them soon. Any one else have any input?

Here's a handy little tip: Put your spray bottles in a large plastic container, or wrap them in large plastic bags. When I went to Arizona last month I noticed upon reaching my destination that my bottle of Hyper Dressing leaked all over several of my MF towels. Apparently this was due to packing the car near sea level and then driving it to a destination at just over 5000' of elevation. Sort of like when you take a new, unopened bag of potato chips in the car and drive from LA to Mammoth Mountain - the bag is all puffed up like a balloon.

Any one heard of that Glad Press and seal stuff?? What if you put that on the bumper, like Fatchance did? Do you think it would do any harm??

I second this suggestion. I keep all my bottles in a small plastic tote now and my soft goods in small duffel bag because something similar happened to me. I had a bottle top pop off due to the heat in my trunk after my black car sat baking in the sun all day when it was 90+.

Fatchance used painters tape, the same stuff used to mask off a car before machine polishing. Wrapping the front of the car in plastic has the potential for some damage as I recall someone either here or at Autopia mentioning some weird spotting from having plastic wrap of some sort in contact with their paint for a period of time. Had a heck of a time getting rid of the defects too. I use painters tape at the drag strip too to keep the rubber bits creating during burnouts from coating the lower portion of the car. Pull off the tape and the crud goes with it.
