Re: what do teh diffrent pads do.

Let's talk specifically about Meguiar's pads here:

7006 Cutting pad. Burgundy in color and not recommended by Meguiar's for use on the DA/G-100 polisher. It can be used, but there is a high probability that it will cause its own marring while removing bad swirls and scratches due to its relatively aggressive nature. This would then require it to be followed with a less aggressive pad. Its firmness is great for use under a microfiber bonnet when removing hazed wax. Do this at speed 5 on the machine.

8006 Polishing pad. Yellow in color, it is the workhorse of the DA/G-100 polisher. Use this to apply and work cleaner polishes like M83 and M80 (don't mix the two on the same pad though!). Generally used at machine speed of 5 when working polishes. It is less dense/firm than the 7006 pad.

9006 Finishing pad. Tan in color, it is the softest/least aggressive of the three. Perfect for applying pure polishes like #7, liquid waxes like Gold Class, or sealants like NXT, #21, etc. Use speed 3 on the machine and apply light pressure, spreading your LSP thinly and evenly over the paint.

Keep in mind that there is no color standard in the industry for pads. Sonus pads are orange/green/blue for cutting/polishing/finishing and other suppliers use different colors still.

    Hope that helps!

I think Meguiar's has a quick video at Meguiars.com but I haven't personally seen it (heck, I may be wrong about whether or not the thing even exists!) but I know that ADS sells a couple of different videos, one by Meguiar's and the other by the fine folks at ShowCarGarage.com. Go to autodetailingsolutions.com and look down the links on the left side of the page - you'll find 'em.
