  • I am in love with this new Solo stuff!

Here's a good before and after shot of what Solo did for me. This guy brought me his truck, and he just knew a repaint was his only option. This is only the drivers door, but you get the idea.

    1 pass Solo via rotary
    1 pass #80 via PC
    2 coats of #26

    Before

    After

I'm in love with this stuff! Why is it that Meguiars only recomends this stuff for freshly painted cars?

    Hi Nick,

Because it will not work with all cured paint. For example we personally tried it with a cured paint yesterday and it did not give good results. It's a car by car situation. Each paint system will react differently. We ended up using M83 instead with the rotary and the results were night and day different.

That's why we don't recommend it for cured paint.

Ahhh, I see. Well this was my 2nd car using the Solo. Since I bought the Solo starter kit. I was so impressed with the results on both cars that I've since went out and bought a gallon of it. It's absolutely great stuff! Love it! 2 thumbs up Meguiars!

We agree, when it works, it works great! One of the reasons we reach for this first is because the play time is long and the wipe off is effortless, so when it works it is a great product.

Please do yourself a favor and always do a test spot with this product before tackling the entire car, take our word for it, you don't want to buff out the factory cured paint on a black car only to wipe of the M86 residue to find out it isn't working.

Get the picture? You'll be going back over the entire car a second time.

Has either of the cars you've worked on with the M86 been black?

Advice taken! I always do a small test spot before working the entire car. Not only to see what products are going to work, but also to know how many passes of each I'll need.

Yes. One was my own 1991 Lexus LS400 that I just acquired, black in color. It's had 16 years of brush type car washes. M86 wiped out the major swirls with one pass, then followed up with #80/PC. This was my test car.

                FWIW

We've been doing this for a long time and we always do a test spot each time we start a car. You never get so good that you can't be careful.

                    Very good.

The reason for the question is that black, whether single stage or basecoat/clearcoat, is the truest test for any product or procedure. Often time a ligher color will not fully reveal to your eyes the full extent of the results. At least not in a way that you and I can easily see.
