  • Ryobi RB101 10" orbital buffer

    hello everyone,

first time posting here but I have a few questions...

i purchase the buffer about 2 weeks ago, but i am still having trouble

removing swirl marks. I read the post about removing swirl marks by hand using

scratch X, deep crystal system polish, and nxt wax.

my question is may I used all these products with the orbital buffer?? will it

give me better results??? I've been using clay kit, color X, and nxt but it still shows a lot of swirls..

    thanks

    Hi Sage NXT,

    Interesting forum name?

    Here's your tool,

Here's an article that explains why you can't remove the swirls with this tool and why everyone ends up either learning how to remove swirls by hand or investing in the G100 Dual Action Polisher also known generically as the PC

Rotary vs PC vs Regular Orbital Buffer

    In a nutshell,

Most clear coat paints are hard, not soft at least not soft like the paint that came on a 1965 Mustang. Because paints are harder, it's more difficult for you and I to remove swirls and scratches out of the paint by hand or machine but it's easiest and fastest by machine as long as you have the right machine. Even with the right machine, to go around the entire car and do the cleaning step, that is the swirl and scratch removal step), it's going to take some time, anywhere from 4-8 hours depending upon,
    • How big the car is
    • How hard the paint is
    • How deep the swirls and scratches are
    • How good your technique is

The good news is we have hundreds, if not thousands of people that come to this forum that have never done this before but with a little persistence and a little perspiration you can do it and we'll help you.

If you want to try again with your orbital polisher, then pick up a tube of ScratchX, apply some to the face of the bonnet and then work a section about 16" to 20" square. Work the product until it's almost gone and then wipe off the remaining residue and inspect. If they're gone then move on to another section. If they're not but you can see some improvement, then apply some more product and try again. If their doesn't appear to be any improvement at all you can try purchasing a product from our Professional Line like our M83 or our M80 or you can consider investing in a dual action polisher.

Try the test section with a tube of ScratchX since you already have the Ryobi and a tube of ScratchX is only about $8.00 and let us know what happens.
