I found a line of what appeared to be clear tree sap on the hood of my new (1200 miles)MBZ S550, don,t know where it came from,--red metallic paint,-- tried washing, didn,t help, tried Blue Magic road tar gel, I think all I,ve managed to do is spread it around, now I have a messy cloudy area about 8" dia.-- of course I,m very worried about messing up this fabulous paint job. It might be days before I can get it to a professianal. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: tree sap on new Mercedes S550
My uncle just brought one about 2 weeks ago same color and its beautiful. Did you try claying it? Even if you didn't clay the car. Just because the car was brand new think of what its been through to get here. Has it been sitting on the MB car lot? Anyway clay the car and im sure it will remove the tree sap and whatever else is on the car. GOOD LUCKDon't forget to rev em high 2005 infiniti fx45, 2005 subaru outback sport se

Re: tree sap on new Mercedes S550
Provident,
If you have rain-x you could use this. moisten a clean terry towel or micro fiber and place it over the area and let it sit for a small amount of time, then carefully wipe the area clean. The solvents in the rain-x will totally remove the sap without hurting the paint.

Re: tree sap on new Mercedes S550
Hi:
Yes, the rubbing alcohol is what I normally try first. Get the 90% rubbing alcohol, you can mix it with 50% water or use it as is.
Make sure the surface is cold and clean in the area that you are going to work.
The rubbing alcohol has always worked for me, it may be a slow process depending on the type of sap and how baked on it might be. Multiple applications can be required.
Good luck.
