  • Polishing Colored Plastic

I am trying to polish a piece of colored platic on a non-automotive application. I cannot seem to get a shine to the piece. It is a smooth finish. What product should I be using to do this?

Is it painted, or just plain shiny plastic?

There is not a lot that can be done with plain plastic, other than to dress it with a dressing, or possibly remove some swirls with a product like PlastX.

What is it? If we knew what it is, perhaps we would be able to advise you better. Until then, if Plastx doesn't work, I suggest you try A-12 Cleaner Wax. That probably sounds pretty strange, but my windshield wiper cowling on my truck is dark gray plastic, and Cleaner Wax is the only thing that seems to work well on it.

Wax will adhere to plastic, and if it is not textured, will remove fine and leave some gloss.

Also works fine for porcelain, granite, etc...

I have tried Plast X on my Quad's plastic pieces, and it didn't work too good.

Did it make anything worse, or just not do anything?

              Just shinny plastic, not painted.
