  • What am i doing wrong?!?

I need help with my glass cleaning? I always seen to have to go over the windows twice. I was using sprayway glass cleaner and I am now trying out megs glass cleaner. I use Tork towels for the wiping. The problem is that they streak and I get film streaks like I'm not getting everything all off. It doesn't matter if I apply alot or a little, If I wipe it a ton or very little, even in sun or shade. I've found it best to go over twice on the inside and use Final Inspection on the outside with a MF towel after glass cleaner. The only plus is I like the was tinted windows shine after FI and the way the water bead and runs off the car kind of like Rain-X. Should I be using MF with the glass cleaner or what? If so I need to put in an order of more MF towels, The wifes gonna love that!

    Thanks for any input.

    Chubs,

I'm not sure what the problem could be, I just used Meguiar's Glass Cleaner on the Pilot windows this morning and applied and removed with our new microfiber polishing cloths without a single problem.

Make sure your final wipe is with a dry microfiber, this will help out a lot.

Perhaps there's some kind of strange residue on the windshield the cleaner alone can't tackle. Try using clay over the windshield, then use the cleaner again. At minimum, your windshield will be quite smooth.

        Hey Chubs,

I too am at a loss as to why you are having difficulty cleaning the glass. I have found the Meguiar's Glass Cleaner to be the bset around IMHO!

Here is what I do. I use two dry and clean Meg's Ultimate Wipes MF cloths. I spray the glass carefully with the glass cleaner. The first MF Ultimate Wipe is used to wipe the glass cleaner thoroughly around the glass. I then go over it again with the other MF towel.

Here is another trick. Use vertical swipes on the outside of the glass and horizontal on the inside (or vice versa). That way if there is any streaking, you will see whether it is on the inside or outside!

Here is the key to perfect windows. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN towels. never use a towel for windows that you have used for anything else, ( even after washing they may still have wax residue inside the fibers ) when drying dont use fabric softener on the window towels ( I dont use it for any of my towels )

I have noticed that my microfibers I use for wax removal dont absorb water very well after a while even though I wash them in hot water, they are still EXCELLENT for removing wax just not absorbing water.

Personally I use surgical towels for glass, just my preference many use microfiber but I prefer the surgical towels. I use my window towels for windows only, wash them seperate from anything else and NO FABRIC SOFTENER !

Good luck and when you find your problem please post what it was so others can learn from it.

            Thanks guys,
I think The problem maybe that I'm not using MF's with the glass cleaner. I'm just using white paper tork towels that you can get at body shops. I"m using MF's with FI for the second time around the outside windows. This sounds stupid but I never had this problem a couple of years ago. I thought it was from the vinyl protectant from Megs I was using was giving off a gas filming the windows, but I"m running into the problem on new customers and there cars as well. Guess I"m gonna invest in some for MF's just for windows I'm wasting to much time doing windows. PLUS I hate doing those hard to reach back windows let alone doing them twice. But thanks again for the input when I get more MF's I'll let you know if the problem is resovled.

              Here's what I use...

Nothing! No chemicals, no Windex or other class cleaner.

Two terry cloth towels. One wet, one dry.

No streaking. No chemicals on paint.

I've tried glass cleaner, Bartender's Friend, auto glass stripper, etc., but don't get the same results as water and a couple of terry cloth towels.

              Best of luck!

If you have never tried it, try taking whatever you use off with newspaper. Yep, its the best I've seen at taking away all film and not leaving behind any lint. It might bet your hands a little dirty, but the windshield will be sparkling.

OK problem solved!! I used your method Tim it proved to work pretty well, as it was my car and there was not much film on the windows but still had some and been having streaking on my car also, so problem solved. I've got a truck that need alot of TLC tommorow so we will test it out on that for sure.

I think this was pretty cool!!
I was talking to the local glass company while at my full time job and she offered to give me a bottle of there glass cleaner to try since we have been doing a lot of business with them. I said cool I give it a try I might like it since I detail cars at home. She said, OH really do you have any business cards as to I konw a few people that would like to get there cars detailed including hers. You gotta love that, no sales pitch just stateing what I do and BAM hopefully a couple of jobs out of that.

Sorry I was just suprised by this I'm on my way to starting my own business that I'm planing on next year.
