  • Leave wax on for a couple of weeks???

I am kinda itchin to drive my new car that has been garaged since November.
I want to wax it, but not polish it, (just leave the wax on without taking it off) and take it out for a spin. Then maybe take it out again the next nice few days, until the spring when I can really do a complete clean, polish, and wax. I don't car what it looks like, just want to drive it.
The reason I don't want to take it wax off, is that it is too cold.
    Comments???

    Thanks.

    Morning,

I am not certain as to why you do not want to remove the wax residue. When waxing a paint, you are leaving behind a microscopic layer of protection. Adding a second coat will provide a uniform coating and protection, but beyond that, it is a waste of product. Personally, I would wipe off the residue...

There is nothing wrong with waxing in the cold. The reason it is not recommended is because waxes become difficult to remove, and there may be streaking issues if the product does not dry enough, thanks in part to the cold temperatures. Further, liquid waxes do freeze and that also becomes a problem when waxing in very cold temperatures. However with that said, I have waxed many vehicles in extreme cold temps without a problem, though it is very uncomfortable for the person waxing.

So again, while waxes work best at 50*F and above, they still work below that temperature, but they become difficult to work with...

Even though your car is in a garage, in most garages just like in your house you'll get dust accumulating on the wax, this creates the potential to instill swirls and scratches when you wipe the wax off as you'll be rubbing the accumulated dust and even dirt over the paint.

Just to note, there's also no benefit to leaving a coating of wax on a past the drying time, more and more time doesn't equate to more and more protection.

you are lucky in that you have a garage that you can put the wax on, put a couple of coats on, then during break in weather re-wax or maintain with UQD.

Not to mention he also wants to drive it with the hazed wax on the paint. I shudder to think of all the crud that would be picked up during that period - probably more in 10 minutes on the road than a week sitting in the garage.

i think what he should before removing the wax if he is going to do so, is try to remove the excess dust before so. maybe using a blower vac or something. then ur just going to have to wipe wats in the wax out with microfiber.

Drive it as-is and then clay, polish and wax as soon as the weather permits to do it right. Most new cars have adequate protection, called paint. I don't think a week or two is going to hurt a factory finish.
