  • MPPC as a clay substitute?

    Hey,

Lately, I've been having some problems with clay. The paint is smooth as flat ice but after I get done and regardless of how careful I am the paint is swirled like crazy. It looks like somebody waxed the thing with a dirt applicator and didn't bother to wash it beforehand.

This is really burning me up and I've about had it with clay. Usually I have much better luck with DACP, SPF, MPPP, NXT and such.

Now my thinking is, clay cleans the paint and makes it smooth. Well, MPPC cleans the paint as well. I don't have MPPC yet and never did, but I was thinking when the clay step comes into play, substitute it for MPPC? Would this work ok? Comments, suggestions, anything else is more than welcomed. Thanks,,,,deadman98

Clay is useful for removing bonded contaminants on the paint while MPPC is good at removing grime that is in the pores of the paint.

When you use clay, or MPPC for that matter, it removes any wax, fillers and oils that may have been hiding those swirls.

What are you using for your clay lubricant? Be sure to use quality MF to remove the clay lube. Also be sure to wash with a clean sheepskin mitt and dry with a quality MF drying towel. Washing can induce a lot of swirls if not careful. Use a good wash and a two bucket method.

I'm a bit confused on your post. Are you saying the swirls are being caused by the "clay bar" or your LSP (last step product)

When I use clay bar I follow the contour of the car/truck...Meaning the hood is done with long swipes front to back and the doors and side panels are done the same way, front to back. Never do I do a door top to bottom strokes. I also never use clay bar in a circular motion.

When I do use a clay bar, if the lubricant runs low or the clay was not kneaded soon enough it will streak the finish.
If you are getting scratches/swirl marks from you clay bar you might be applying to much pressure or not enough lubricant or not kneading frequently enough.

"clay cleans the paint and makes it smooth".
Only by removing containments that are imbedded in the finish,

      Hope this helps

Well since I'm 21 and grounded from the computer because I don't give a **** about anything anymore and I treat my parents like dog ****, I'm going to make this brief. Please don't pity me!

I can use the clay bar 1 once possible twice then I have to pitch it. Why, because alot of cars I do are usually not washed on a regular basis and in my opinion, I think clay bars ****!

Secondly, I use back and forth strokes

Thirdly, I use FI as my lubricant

Fourthly, I use Autopia or Ultimate Wipe MF towels whatever mood I'm in for to wipe off the excess.

Pardon my attitude but as you can see I need the absolute **** beaten out of me and I need a job,,,,,deadman98

We are just trying to help you find out the causes of your swirled paint problems. So don't ask for help and then get angry with us. Have you checked out the thread on how to clay a car? This is a "G" rated site, I don't appreciate your so called smilie!

I think the gentlemanly thing to do here is let this post die.

                Nuff said.
