  • 'Chrome' Door Accents

I have a question about the moldings at the windows that look to be something like plastic with a chrome type finish ... and the front grill on my car, which is basically the same - plastic chrome plated type.

What is a good product to clean these? There appears to be some serious oxidation and dis-colorization on my trims above the door (at the glass). I know they are supposed to shine and look like chrome, but mine don't. Is there a gentle product for this and the grill?

You can give NXT Metal Polysh a shot.

I agree. That's what I use on my "chrome" trim.

        Re: 'Chrome' Door Accents

I have tended to stick with something like a cleaner/wax when dealing with the plastic chrome trim.

But if Tyler and Lydia have used the Nxt Metal Polysh on it, then it should work good also.

I have "Chrome" "Stainless" or whatever, trim on my Yukon. I had used in the past Cleaner Wax and worked fine, then wax. I then did a test section with cut up terry cloth with Meguiars Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum polish and it worked great. I took pictures but seemed to lost them. When it warms up I'll take pictures for ya. They are inserts in the body moulding (stock) so I imagine they are plastic, not sure yet. The cloth turned black from cleaning but they were very dirty, so can't say if it was actually aluminum/stainless or not. Will keep ya up to date. I also used NXT All Metal Polysh, great stuff.

Just to mention, the Nxt polish is clear coat safe, while the Hot Rims polish is not. I do not know how that would affect the trim, but if it is clear coated, using the Nxt may be better.

Good point Murr, I forgot to add that.

                Re: 'Chrome' Door Accents

Thanks, once again, for the fast informative help! Look forward to some pics ... the 'chrome' door trim from Mercedes-Benz is $200 per side, not counting labor to install - it would be chrome then for sure! I need to remember to get before and after pics. Hope I don't make it worse.

I do not have the NXT All Metal Polysh but I know Meguiar's makes a line of products for Mercedes-Benz, and I have the MB weel wax cleaner ... looks like a similar container - not sure if it is the same. If not, I will just yet again go slap some cash down and buy some NXT

Thanks for the advise ... once I figure out the 'photo' section here, I can get some pics up (doesn't everyone here have a dedicated space for pics?).

Hoping this weekend to do some serious DA polishing, claying, everything ...
