  • Rain X

I have heard from some of my friends that rain x works like a pro on all of their cars. But I have also heard that it can cause your winshield to get a foggy substance over the top. I was wondering if you guys use it and if it really works on your winshields?

It works, but can cause windshield wiper chatter.

your not kidding either, other day in a all day RAIN , was annoying. SO I removed with Is. Alcohol and applied some UQD ( probably not recommended ) but next rain no chatter and in fact didnt even turn on wipers, beaded up and over roof

I currently use RainX and the RainX Window Cleaner with great results. While I have not experienced the wiper chatter I can attest to clouding or fogging of windows if the product is not applied sparingly.

I haven't had a chance to wash my car since mid-Jan, but when I do I will be giving the windows an IPA wipe down as well. I usually don't even turn the wipers on when I have Rain-X applied because of the NOISE!!! I bought some silicone wiper blades that make the glass bead water on it's own.

I bought some of that 2-in-1 window cleaner, and it IMO works better than the regular Rain X. Gives the water beading properties but with no chatter. I also pour in the additive. BTW, I only use Rain X on my truck now. The car HATES Rain X.

I use RainX at least once a week I love it. I also use rainx blades. I love Rainx but not as much as I love Meguiars.

I am on the no chatter side. I have never had a problem, and I certainly dont apply sparingly.

It works for me, but I do not know what the catch is that people get different results.

I use Rain-X on all of my windows on all my vehicles and have for many years without a single issue.

I’m also at a loss to why so many people get different results.

FWIW, I do use it very sparingly and let it dry really good before buffing off.
Just give it a try and see if it works for you.

                  Re: Rain X

I've heard of the product but never used it. What is the point? Is it supposed to do something more than a good set of wiper blades against a clean windshield? Just wondering if it's one of those solutions in search of a problem.

                    Re: Rain X

i've used rainx for roughly 3 years now with excellent results. I also like it because it makes it easier to clean the windows (kind of like a waxed car is easier to clean). I use it on all of my windows and sometimes my headlights. Like TXShine said, just make sure you let it dry real good, then buff REALLY well making sure you get all of it "off"

I used to use Rain-X on my windshield until I started to offer Aquapel.
Aquapel is supposed to be re-applied every six months, however, I have gone well over a year before it did not shed water any more.

                        Re: Rain X

I think it adds a little extra gloss, which is nice for the looks. But when raining, the water will blow off more (Nxt glass cleaner seems to do this as well, but not as much) so even a good wiper will have less work to do.

                          Re: Rain X

Used to use Rain-X (used for many years, since it first came out) but on my previous vehicle (Highlander) it caused really bad wiper chatter. So I quit using it. About the same time, I started using Meg's Detailer's Glass Cleaner. If I use this every day or every other day (i.e. keep a very clean windshield,) I have no problem with chatter, and really good vision at night in the rain (which was the main advantage of the Rain-X "beading" effect.) The "beading" effect is not as drastic with Meg's Glass Cleaner, but still noticeable.

I have considered trying Aquapel. If I remember correctly, it was designed by PPG glass makers.

ive tried the washer additive, unfortunately all it did was cause white streaks where the fluid/water mix has run off the windshield. and i get a slight hazing using the wipers afterwards too.
